Why do I feel like Mercy is fun

Hello.
This is a trend that hasn’t died on this forum yet and I thought I might join the band of Mercys.

So many many many posts are saying that Mercy doesn’t feel impactful or fun anymore. I used to agree and then I kept playing Mercy and saw that my fun was the same as it used to be with her.

What do I find fun in Mercy’s gameplay you might ask?

  • She’s hyper-mobile. More than every other hero considering the cooldown.
  • She does not have to shoot enemies. She helps the team anyway! Unique.
  • She still gets to quickly save people accross the map, flying to them.
  • She still has resurrect to help those that are well-positionned with a second chance.

Mercy’s mobility is by far the thing that makes me like her. No other hero has the ability to be anywhere in the teamfight at will on a small cooldown of 2 seconds. It doesn’t even feel like there’s a cooldown, except when you’re hard-focused!

Mercy has grace and flows well on the battlefield and gliding accross my entire team, using valkyrie to resurrect that flanking Genji and coming back at the speed of light is everything I find fun and engaging about Mercy. She’s fast on her feet, and wings.

Edit: As said further down in the comments, I stopped ‘watching’ this thread so if you wish to receive a direct answer from me, please quote me or use the direct ‘reply’ button! Thanks.

I agree wholeheartedly. I’ve never understood the people who say she was “more engaging” before the rework… she literally had less to do back then.

Yes! They added so much mobility to her kit and it made her that much fun to play.

I’m not even talking about valkyrie. You used to not even be able to hold jump to glide past your GA target and this change made her so much more fun!

I wonder why

I will say that’s always been the main appeal and unique aspect of Mercy is that any attempt at flanking her is borderline useless and the more DPS trying to waste their time killing you means less DPS on the people she’s healing so it always fit for me

Exactly.
They’ll have a hard time locking you down and by the time they get to you, they wasted so much time that their team lost the fight.

There’s some good players out there though! I was impressed by a Tracer in one of my recent games (PS4, 3.6k) that got nanoed. I super-jumped immediatly upwards and she took 0.5 second to think, looked directly above and finished me off.

It doesn’t always work, but it’s still so much fun! It’s almost never on cooldown.

I think the main complaint is she has no “big hero moment” with her ult anymore when a majority of ults had that feeling.

Yes, there are now a few more utility enhancing ults-but Valk can still feel a bit outclassed by them because they do affect how she’s played by making her game play become SUPER safe without the need to prioritize with chain heals, the worry about positioning with free flight.

Which were resulting from bugs. Which does say something if some of the more talked about benefits to her rework were things that came from unintentional bugs.

I don’t think the’s useless/ She’s usable, yes-not viable in the meta. However I do think she is a bit underpowered with how burst seems to be more and more common as the game develops. Mercy’s consistency while nice-seems to go against how the game is starting to go.

I do however feel that Blizzard should have never mentioned things like “frustrating to deal with” when a dressing rez and how it was core to her kit. Things like that just give people the right to say things should be removed/reworked because they are “frustrating or unfun” to deal with.

Mercy has the ultimate burst healing though!
Nobody else can heal a widowmaker headshot or a junkrat tire!

I feel like Valkyrie is an empowered feeling. You get to help everyone at the same time and help in multiple duels at the same time if needed with the increased range coupled with the flight ability.

Coalescence has that same feeling! It’s an ultimate that you use when you feel like the poop will hit the fan, not afterwards! It’s like putting a plastic sheet above your future pooped-up fan.

Um…I fail to see how 60hps is a burst heal vs burst healing of the other main healers. I mean could see it in comparisons to Lucio’s Amp it up, but that’s just a basic ability.

Not really…she works best in comps where the teams are spread out and due to the newer changes to Lucio, is relegated to a smaller aura than his.

I will admit Coalescence really doesn’t get the fanfare that should get. It is one of my fave ults to use on payloads because of the tight corners and chokes.

Valk…I guess I just can’t find what’s so amazing about it that everyone else keeps describing. It’s not bursty enough to sustain through focus fire.

Like I’ll pop it if we have an Orisia so I can stack damage boost with Supercharager, but granted it still has a smaller AoE than that one, so not everyone is going to benefit from the stacking but at least it’s something…though feels lackluster since I am stacking it.

Going Battle Mercy is fun but I think that’s because I like pistoling.

Mercy is my main and I still love playing her, but I understand why people are frustrated and don’t enjoy her as much.

If she is played as a main support, she doesn’t have time to utilize dmg boost as she constantly has to heal with her 50 HPS. With that healing also being that there is nothing you can do to save an teammate. Moira can chug out her orb and hard pocket. Ana can heal a lot and even through in a grenade into the mix, maybe even sleepdart the enemy, Mercy? she can keep her 50 HPS on the ally and pray that it’s enough.
If you run her as a secondary support with Ana, you don’t have the teamwipe saving ult that others bring. So you can often only play her when the enemies don’t run Genji or Zarya.

Her rez feels bad to use with the speed decrease, I know it’s a powerful ability, but it feels bad to use a lot of times. I still enjoy getting those cheeky rez when the enemies aren’t looking, but I get why people dislike rez now and I would prefer to have it replaced too.

And valk ist just … boring. It’s not the worst ultimate, but not engaging. I know when to use it properly, which still doesn’t help it’s flaws a lot.

So yeah, I still enjoy her, but I get why people complain about her.

That makes sense to me, honestly, and is probably why I never saw the problem. I don’t need to have that moment.

I then went on to add that if there more utility ults, like what we have now, then Valk could have been pushed to be more viewed like that.

Me I like having that feeling of “I did something” it’s why I like playing heroes like Lucio, Zen, and Sombra over others, but I like learning how to play the others too. (heck I can even feel like that when I play Symm on some maps where her wall can be a pain when you split it).

I will say this - flying in Valkyrie feels a lot better after the changes.

Imagine that thing that you find unpleasant or distasteful to do but you have to do it anyway. It could be a household chore, homework, something at your job… whatever.

Now imagine that you have to do that thing twice as much. Is your life better? Obviously not.

That’s how it works. Those people find the new things that Mercy has rather distasteful. So naturally… they want them gone.

Silly you! I’m talking about resurrect. Nobody else has such a burst support ability!

I see the chained beams as a bonus! It helps groups of people but it’s much better to exploit the range of her beams to allow for heals everywhere on the battlefield without the limitations of a delayed GA and shorter range!

But the point is mostly to augment her already insane mobility! You get to cross great distances in no time and be where you need to be at all time, even more so in valkyrie!

I also understand, I just don’t see how her gameplay changed at all! She was never the bursty type of healer. She’s the omnipresent constant healer! She used to be able to resurrect multiple people every minute and a half, now it’s one per 30 sec!

I think it’s the perception of things that has the most impact here! Valkyrie makes me feel like I had impact because I think of it like this: If I would’ve played Zen or Lucio, yes maybe my team would’ve had more temporary protections, but on the long run I provided an even more diverse support to my team, healing those in need and buffing key abilities!

It even buffs resurrect, for now. So it’s a win-win when I use my ultimate. It’s a ‘‘I’m giving it my all!’’ kind of moment.

What has Mercy lost over time? You can only be so disappointed in added abilities. I don’t believe the problem is that her ‘‘new things’’ are boring! I think it’s because many people liked the Boom! resurrect used to give you 2 or 3 times in a match rather than the hero itself.

Too bad it doesn’t count to healing/ult charge. I can’t really call it a burst heal.

Which again…is amplified by two unintentional bugs. I know Bunny Hop is now worked in and it’s still out if SuperJump is or is not (been addressed but that’s about it) but still, they were unintentional mobility changes…kinda feels a bit sad (in my opinion) that the best things that came from her rework were unintentional.

At a slow 50hps. I’m sorry but that’s just very slow in a fast paced game-which is why I will choose Moira if I’m serious to solo heal.

Mercy…is so I can damage boost and BM, I rarely get high healing with her because of that sluggish feeling.

Really? It feels dreadfully worse to me, and we both play on PS4 right?
Or am I thinking of someone else?

General topic response: I disagree. The best parts of Mercy were her constant micro management of allies health and boostable abilities, and the need to utilize her more limited, compared to current, mobility carefully because her death was the ultimate failure.

Now dying is less punished and arguably harder. With a static cooldown being your most valuable asset, an ult that micro manages for you while increasing your mobility and granting uninterruptible self healing the only risk left is an absurdly good Widow and your most valuable asset with a longer cast time than Deadeye.

They removed the real risk of her bare bones kit while feigning additional skill requirements that test your allies more than you as a player.

Overall while I can stomach new Mercy, I rarely enjoy her.

Mass Resurrect.
10 hps on her healing beam.
The ability to damage boost certain ultimates.
The ability to damage boost projectiles after they’ve been fired.

If we go into less concrete things, I could probably list off another 10 things that she’s lost.

Well fun is this big subjective term. We all find different things fun~

I think being a space solider fighting giant squid robots is fun, someone else might think it’s dumb. We all have different means of fun. Also as far as being anyone on the battle field, tracer does if I’m not mistaken.

Also if you mean be anywhere on the battle field in a short amount of time any mobility hero can do that ha ha

I still enjoy playing Mercy every now and then. She is still my main, and I’ll always stick with her. She’s a easygoing hero to play when you need a break from playing Moira or Ana. Her rez will always be strong, and being able to superjump is also fun.

I just wish they made some minor tweaks to her ultimate is all.

Baptiste can.
