Why do all the new heroes have 3 abilities?

Back in the days of OG Overwatch every hero except for a very small amount had 2 abilities

The game was fun, and it was decently balanced, no blatantly better heroes.

Now we are 4 years ahead and EVERY hero since then (except Ashe and Ana, who are balanced) has gotten 3 abilities.

And coinciding with that every new hero other than Ashe, Ball and Ana are/have been VERY broken.

This is not okay.

You get 3 abilities if you don’t have a secondary fire. That’s how it works. The majority of Overwatch heroes have 4 things they can do besides an ult. It’s either primary fire, secondary fire + 2 abilities or 3 abilities + primary fire.

This is not unusual.

But 3 abilities is just plain better than a secondary fire

At least in my experience- the more things you have that you can do the more fun a hero is to play.

Sure, and thats what worries me

If the devs cater to what is more “fun” they actually make the game less fun my introducing new and broken heroes

Reinhardt doesn’t even have a quick melee button.

I am not sure where anyone gets that the dev’s are catering to anything or anyone. Their decision making is basically just RNG.

Secondary fire could be looked at as an ability too.

Mind blown

Most heroes have a primary fire, secondary fire, ability 1, 2, and ultimate. The only heroes missing anything in a “slot” are Tracer, Winston, and Bastion. Everyone else either has two types of fire, an aim down sights, or an ability to make up for the lack of one.

The game was only balanced because most people were still learning the game. We’ve had metas since season 1.

If you think genji’s fan of blades, or McCrees Fan can be considered anywhere as strong as a new ability

Idk what to say dude

sayin that ball isnt broken wut?

The only reason he wasnt broken was because all of his counters were/are good

It isn’t just the existence of 3 abilities that makes new heroes being introduced broken or unfun. It is how they handle the implimentation and balancing of those abilities.

Sure, but my thought process is

Did Brig NEED a Whip? Did Sigma NEED a Defense Matrix, Did Orisa NEED 50% dmg boost etc.

Like without those 3rd abilties, they would still be fine

Up to 300 damage in 0.78 seconds? That’s pretty strong IMO. One reason why he’s meta.

His new primary fire made it almost completely pointless

You almost never FTH anymore

Only time I see FTH useful is when something will die really fast, like an Orisa shield where it wont be worth to shoot it normally

Almost anything else, primary is better

And yet he’s still the best DPS and a better shield buster than shield buster heroes… GG.

She definitely does now since she has to hit someone to activate inspire. Since her survivability was drastically nerfed it is her only way of activiating inspire without having to get within melee distance of the enemy team.

I think it was too much at launch in conjunction with his shield but since that has been nerfed quite a bit I don’t see a problem with him having it with his shield breaking so fast and the delay before he can send it out again.

This one doesn’t count. It’s her ultimate.

I think heroes having more to do is good. As long as they are balanced right. So far they seem to release them way too strong and then (almost) overnerfing them in to place.
