As a new player I thought doom needed some tuning but the more I play the more like I feel he’s still a dps. High mobility, stun. He fits being a flanker down to the bone. Jump in, do damage, get out. Although winston has leap his damage output potential is much lower than doom and winston still has a shield. Doom’s block is also inferior to orisa’s fortify. Only reduces damage from the front, slows him down.
He has all the hallmarks of a dps and is an inferior tank in every way. Why did blizz make the decision to switch him to tank?

they probably did it because theres too many dps heroes, i dont agree with it either.
I’d argue he never fit the DPS role at all. He’s a disruptor with a chunky hitbox and a ton of CC, more Wrecking Ball than any flanker.

Ball’s dps fits in exchange for his mobility. Also has a shield which gives instant overhealth. I’d also argue ball doesn’t fit in tank now either. Such a high skill floor for little payoff.
I feel like doom and ball would have fit more as an off tank if this was still a 6v6 game. Now they’re both in this weird spot where theyre not really fit for their roles.
His kit was all about CC and CC was moved to the tank role. That is why.

He was a tank to begin with before he got shoehorned into being DPS. That being said, most of his DPS abilities were already in line with what tanks had including leaps and CC which made him a perfect candiate to put back on the tank roster.
Balance wise he was trash in high elo but the boogeyman in lower, so in a similar situation to Bastion they just started over instead of playing tug of war endlessly. Buffing him or nerfing him meant people weren’t happy.

They do their job well-enough, but the are hard to play. It requires aim and why aim when you can use hook sheninangans. Swing a hammer or zap people. use a giant laser hitbox.
Because Doom’s fighting archetype with tons of CC can fit intoTank role better than DPS, whose principle is based on FPS.
Not to mention getting physically in the enemies face all game works better with more bulk.

Another two characteristics common to tanks are low range and damage that ignores some or all defenses. Doom fits both.
It was weird that he was a DPS in the first place.

ball doesnt really have a big skill ceiling, hes just like sombra, in that in order to do good dps he has to consistently be doing something, so it could seem that way.
if they want to mae him a tank give him the element to protect his team or somthing increase the hit box of his power block sheilding so u can protect teamates
well for me he doesn’t maybe compared to reinhardt hes hard, i mean you cant just stand there…
DPS are not permitted to have hard CC in OW2. Doomfist is fundamentally built around his punch causing a stun and huge knockback. He’s just not compatible with the role anymore,
They just wanted an excuse to gut him.

The community hated him as a DPS. All around CC and had a charge up one shot for 250 HP or less hero. He kinda did stop you from playing from the game in a way. They originally wanted to cut CC in half cough cough Sojourn in OW2. That’s why he got reworked as a Tank. Although in theory this is with a good Doomfist. He’s the hero where you’re good with or just feed with.
He was actually pretty bad everywhere. He, like genji, actually peaked around Diamond in terms of popularity and winrate.
People just found him unfun to play against, like most oneshot heroes.
