Why did they add text chat to console?

It is used for toxicity 95% of the time and people always stop playing to chat. Absolutely nothing good has come out of adding it. Anyone could have told you it was going to be used that way. What were they expecting?? It was so much better before they added it. Why did they add it, are they stupid? Honestly.

If this is what PC have had to put up with since day 1 then no wonder the game lost so many players, it ruins it completely. The whole artisic direction of this game is ‘‘positive future for humanity!’’ and it undermines it totally.

If I had my way voice chat would be friends only. I always play with it off. When I have seen youtube clips where people have it on I wonder how on earth they put up with it.

I think blizzard need to learn that just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you should and also that old saying ‘‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’’ not only in regards to voice but also the constant reworks that alienate players once the main they have fallen in love with is ruined.

I remember telling console users how lucky they are for not having chat every time one of them make a thread asking for chat on consoles.

I am guessing the addition of the chat is just a “side effect” of making the game crossplatform. It would be weird not having a chat while playing in a PC lobby.

I agree with this. They should just get rid of all other channels in the game. Nothing good comes out of those.

On the contrary, I’m grateful for the addition of text chat to console.

Not that I ever use it, I think it’s a gigantic waste of time, even on MnK. I mute chat most games and I no longer get any xbox DMs from salty sallys. Toxicity has gone down massively for me.

This company is too proud to admit when it makes mistakes so never revert things, even things that are glaringly obviously bad like adding text to console. That said maybe the ping system might have been added so they can then make voice friends only? That would be good but doubt it.

In all honesty, toxicity in the chat isn’t really THAT serious. Especially once you realize you can squelch individual people, or just simply disable text chat either temporarily or permanently.

I would actually like for Blizzard to incorporate better keyboard support for console users, so that text chatting is a lot more seamless. On console you still need way too many controller inputs, with a keyboard connected, just to get the virtual keyboard to appear on screen.

So yeah. You might as well get used to it. Once the scoreboard goes live, toxicity will most definitely increase. But as I mentioned earlier, Blizz gives you the tools needed to deny someone’s existence :smirk:

Text chat is useful for people who don’t like using voice chat. If you don’t want it, turn it off. There’s no reason to remove it.

There is. Remove it and the game is instantly less toxic. Obviously you can turn it off but people don’t because they have FOMO or curiosity gets the better of them.
