That is a question that has bugged me for a while. Why did Sam and Ana end up splitting apart? It seemed to me that they all could have been happy together, but they went separate ways instead. What happened to cause that?
Doesn’t seem like they were married. Pharah has Ana’s last name, not Sam’s. Ana was a busy woman and had a very important job, perhaps Sam didn’t think it was worth it for him to move all the way to Switzerland from Canada. Pharah is on good terms with him. I imagine she spent a great amount if time with him growing up, considering Ana was so busy (and also wanted to keep her away from OW)
That is a strong possibility but I thought I read somewhere that Pharah was raised by Ana and her grandparents.
I think they largely split because of Overwatch. Sam didn’t want part of it and had stuff to do back home in Canada. Ana had to do her duty so they split. At least that is my take on it.
I’m not even sure if they technically split because ana did fake her death after all.
Too many small unanswered questions 2 years into the games life…sigh
Ana doesn’t even have his picture next to her bed. She keeps pictures of her friends and Pharah but not Sam. It doesn’t seem like they’re particularly close.
doesnt she or pharah have a spray of the 2 of them holding pharah
Tuo, Ana does! They could have used it as one of the pictures.
The developers said that they really wanted to show Pharah’s parents as “civilian” and “military” - I think the problem comes from here. The only real Ana family besides her daughter is her friends from Overwatch. You can see that she keeps exactly the photo with the squad, and not with the father of her daughter.
Doesn’t Pharah have a voice line where she asks if Ana has told Sam she’s alive?
I could be mistaken.
I believe that is an interaction between them. I think Ana said she hasn’t because she isn’t sure how to.
“You let me worry about what your father needs to know” is what she says.
Ah thank you. I had a feeling it was something about him not knowing and her not really wanting to tell him.
Well for one, we don’t know if Sam & Ana were ever married, so there’s that.
Two, despite Blizzard trying to paint Ana as being the perfect, caring mother (and I don’t doubt that she is, to an extent), Ana has made it very clear that she puts her job before her family a lot of the time.
I mean, she let everyone believe that she was dead (while her reasons for doing so were understandable)…however, she then decides to get back into the fight.
Not only that, but she doesn’t even tell her family that she’s alive, and the only person who she informs (Pharah), is informed through a letter, instead of being face-to-face.
Then there’s the fact that she chooses to keep on fighting alongside Soldier: 76, who is also “dead”, instead of informing her lover/ex/husband/father of her child that she’s alive, all the while showing signs of being reluctant of doing such a thing any time soon.
That’s not even getting into her potentially sabotaging Pharah’s chances of joining Overwatch.
Honestly, from all that’s been revealed regarding the Amaris + Sam, it really seems like Ana screwed up that entire relationship.
I could see Sam not being a fan of all the press and celebrity-status that Overwatch brings into Ana’s life and how she becomes increasingly busier, causing them to split as a result.
Other than that, I always found it hard to believe that Ana spent a bunch of time with Pharah when she was so devoted to Overwatch work so it would have made more sense to me that Pharah was closer to Sam.
After all, Pharah seems to be on very good terms with him, and Sam deserves something considering that both of the male characters who were in relationships with playable heroes have gotten the short end of the stick (the other male being Gérard, who is dead).
What if she just split because she wanted to protect Sam and herself, because civilians are just much easier to capture and brainwash to kill you while you sleep.
