They pretended that other popular games did it (which they do not). After that, they would desperately try to play the “it is not pay to win” in an attempt to justify that it is technically fine. It was pretty weird, homie.
The psychology behind it is that these people believed Activision was their friend and/or identity. Therefore when you criticized the concept, they felt personally attacked.

I still find it so funny that they made a hero that was SO UNDENIABLY OPAF ON GOD FRFR that even their toe slurping cult followers couldn’t deal with it.

Yeah, I just straight up didn’t play that season. I was still into Overwatch at the time, but I wasn’t suicidal enough to even attempt solo Tanking THAT thing while I tried to grind through 60% of the BP for free, cause I wasn’t buying that 2017 Orisa ‘Mythic’.

I thought it was obvious, that only “not sharp” individuals defended this and argued “it´s not pay2win”.

Did anyone defend it really? Even content creators who defend blizzard thought it was silly and I think the same goes for people on the forums / reddit etc.

Yes, that skin was pretty mid. If I could, I’d refund it right now, even if all I got for it were 40 prisms… maybe even for less.

The gold version looks really good though, but that’s straight up 100 prims.

Yeah I don’t remember seeing anyone defend it, but I think sometimes people come on these forums just to get a pat on the back. Like every response here is like “yeah it was dumb, you so right enigma good job buddy!”

No, there were definitely defenders, but it was like a year ago, so maybe it wasn’t on the forums?
I don’t think that anyone was 100% behind the idea. The p2w argument had a lot of merit to it, but, as I said earlier, many people were indifferent to it. Those who said that in order for the game to keep running and receive content Blizzard needs to make money from it and this is the best way to stimulate purchases so it benefits all players? Well, this idea also has some merit to it, as well.

It wasn’t technically p2w, due to being able to get the hero for free. It could have been a lot worse too.
They could have put the free hero unlock at level 100 or something, instead of just level 45.
And all the people who didn’t play comp didn’t really care about getting the hero immediately.
Playing mystery heroes, i had accumulated an hour or so on the new hero before even unlocking them.
