Michael Chu was responsible for much of the game’s lore and story, origin, comics and lead director I think? What made him leave? Did blizzard do something that he didn’t agree with?
Probably after the Blitzchung event. Or it was at least a contributing factor. My best guess is that he was silenced, or contracted to, by his bosses.
Blizzard haven’t exactly been well behaved to their staff for sure.

Probably finished writing all he wanted to for the OW story and wanted to move on to other projects.

I doubt it. There was a lot more planned for the lore, mostly mentioned on Twitter and sometimes on the forums.
Problem is, the lore already written just opened up new plot problems that were left unanswered by Chu leaving. Whatever he had planned in his head, I hope, was at least written down or at least put onto the drawing board for his successor/s.

He left Blizzard after 20 years. He wasn’t only writing for OW.
Hmm true. But I still think him being done with the OW story played a role. I don’t think he would just leave like that if he wasn’t satisfied with how he left it.
His decision to leave in the middle of OW2’s development is strange, but its not difficult to see how he might look at leaving that job as a “now or never” thing after 20 years at Blizzard.
