Why did epic skins techinically get ‘’removed”?

I didn’t play enough during Summer Games 2019’s challenge week three and figured: ‘’Gonna get it next year”. Joke’s on me, the skin never came back in the following Summer Games. It’s in the lootboxes and it’s not in the hero gallery. Actually, it’s completely gone from the hero gallery. Other event items stay there every event, but not those ‘’weekly challenges” cosmetics. So, not only instead of having three weeks to get an epic skins like before SG 2019, now you’ve only got one week and after that, the skin is gone for you.

Why is this a thing? Why don’t cosmetics from weekly challenges show up in event lootboxes and hero gallery the next year? Oh, and even though the Rein skin is not visible in my hero gallery, the portrait from that week’s challenge stays in my ‘’Summer Games” tab, being locked. I get not wanting to bring back Demon Hunter Sombra from Halloween Terror 2019, but the rest? And not like they’re the mini-events that happen from time to time (although, those should be coming back a year or so after their event is over as well), they’re items tied to a bigger event.

So basically they’re easing the humans into accepting what’s coming with Overwatch 2, which is Battlepasses.

The humans are like frogs. You put them in the pot of water and slowly turn the heat up and if you do it gradually enough they’ll just float there calmly until they boil.

Then Bobby has boiled frog for tea.

Convoluted reasons, I’m sure. They basically took something that was “free” and put it behind a play-wall. Totally asinine, IMO.

The only challenge skins should be the lore-friendly skins that usually accompanied comics or animated shorts or whatever.

At the least, they should have ADDED more skins to the main events if they were going to have challenge skins… instead of hiding three (of the ususal seven or so we get each event) behind time hurdles. Gross.

Its even wore when you consider that even the flag skins for heroes have been locked by the weekly challenges, like, i get it with Orisa´s ice cream or Winston´s one but its kinda of sad to see the American Reaper or Nihon Hanzo being locked.

I bet they’ll follow their CoD scheme, since it worked out so incredibly well for Activision-Blizzard with that community. Many (if not most) normal folks won’t even have the time needed to grind for all the cool stuff presented in the battlepasses (where good content is sprinkled among a lot of crap, with the best always held at the end, of course). One would need will to faithfully play like it’s a second job to earn it all (what fun!), but don’t worry: for a modest fee, say, oh, I dunno, maybe a “mere” $1.50 per level to unlock levels in the pass—paying just double the cost of a whole new game for the 100 levels— you can still have it all, and at once! And do it again two months later! (and even then again and again, over and over!)

Plus, like CoD, I bet there will likely be even really cool cosmetic content in a DLC shop, with the best content all conveniently locked behind a paywall and frequently advertised whenever you load up the game. For pricing, probably expect the same, say $10-20 per pack of goodies (which would be one legendary skin and some sprays and a voice line or two, maybe an emote if you’re lucky as “added goodies”).

They want more monthly user logins, not long term invested users.

One time cosmetics what encourage users to login for events are part of that.

these skins come back during the ANNIVERSARY event, not during the same holiday event they appeared in. I think.

No, im pretty sure the weekly challenge skins are limited to the week they run on during the event, they dont even come back for Anniversary.

It’s funny that the epic skins are rarer than the legendary skins lol cause of this

The reason they do this is mainly because people cry or hate it when they can’t tick off every cosmetic for a hero.

It’s pretty pathetic tbh, I’d like to just be able to see every skin in the game but no we can’t do that because the collectors will be unsatisfied.

no, i’m very sure this is not true. pretty sure i’ve gotten some skins i missed out on from the challenges. like stone brig i think?

I tend to check the Gallery on Anniversary to make sure i got all the skins i wanted before the event ends, I sure as hell would have noticed if i could buy Inferno Junkrat or Monk Doomfist.

I really don’t understand this. I’ve not missed a single challenge skin since they started doing them, not even the ones I don’t care about (though I did lose some after moving to PC). I understand some people are busier than me, but what is so hard about setting small goals for them? Like do one level of the challenge a day, or even smaller increments if you have to.

Honestly, I get that it sucks feeling locked out of content, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the challenges. They already made it so you can eventually get them just by smashing your head against a keyboard. You don’t even have to win anymore.

this thread is someone upset because they can’t get every skin for a certain hero though?

Collectors would easily acquire the skin anyways, since veteran players already have every other Epic in the game. The weekly skin system mostly benefits new players, who can more easily get older skins since newer ones aren’t inflating the pool, and can get the new ones for certain.

That being said i do think the skins should be added to the standard pool the next year. Kinda weird they aren’t since they’re just epics.

Yes, and I explained why they can’t.

If people take breaks they can miss out on dozens of epic event skins.

weekly challenge skins and mini event skins have never been made available twice. So far you get one chance and that’s it.

Sorry to disappoint you, but you are wrong. This weekly epics never come back - at least there is no info about it. Not even during anniversary.

Between my console and pc account I’ve only missed out on one event skin Terracotta Baptiste (I was hospitalized during that time) and even then it’s not the end of the world.

With that many skins added overtime your likely to swap through multiple throughout your playtime anyway. If you miss out it’s locked behind the legacy tab anyway, so it’s not gonna haunt you unless you search it out which even then might not show.

One positive I will say about earning those epics is for newer players can earn a skin just by playing and for those unlucky who don’t earn anything new from the lootboxes in the event.

I do agree with Squashpup though on they should be purchasable during next year or anniversary.

So you don’t get it because you don’t have this problem. Think about that.

you say this but:

Some people are unable to play for weeks or months at a time. Some people don’t live on the internet and the mini event announcements miss them. Some people might get a couple hours of playtime a week.

The thing that really sucks isn’t people who have time to play or know about the event but can’t muster the gameplay, it’s that for an arbitrary reason we lose access to these skins forever if we don’t plan our lives around our play. It shouldn’t be that way and it WASN’T that way.
