They lost the hype for OW2 when they abandoned the game for 3 years. Honestly, I was ok with new skins with events on OW1 and could go for 1 or 2 more years without OW2. So why did they rush it? This game is definitely not ready. The on-fire status is removed but their voice lines stay. I think they just couldn’t add the on-fire status on new portraits and the scoreboard. Bastion ult broke the game, servers weren’t ready, the game had serious balance issues where they can’t even release an already delayed patch. So why did you rush it? You wanted to gain money through shop faster? Couldn’t you wait for the PvE to get ready? Why release a rushed, broken game where you lost many of your already in-game players? It just doesn’t make any sense.
Because the higher ups wanted and
.
They could have gotten more if they waited for PvE to come out. Its probably gonna be a puchasable addition like Fortnite Save The World anyways.
3 years for three new heroes and six new maps.
Reminds me of Halo Infinite; there’s an entire division who’s sole purpose is to make Halo, Microsoft was banking on it to be a major system seller, and they still let it drop the ball hard. Where is the quality control?
The better question is what they were even doing for those past years if not making the game.
OW2 has more stuff removed than new stuff being added.
Basically higher ups were not willing to wait any longer
Plus league needed a boost
So basically….get something out there NOW….even if that means you can only release bare minimum pvp changes
That and they wanted to get their greed based monetization out as fast as possible
Yada yada….”EARLY ACCESS” OW 1.2!!!
(20 characters hehe)
That is not a question - that is a lawsuit - (probably still ongoing)
It was that all the major content creators were about to leave the game. They were all moving to apex legends and forced the hand of a commitment to a release date. Marketing at its finest.
OW isn’t even involved in that and the new CoD seems to be doing just fine.
I think they were….the one Jeff had planned anyway…
Not good enough for Bobby k
After the MS buyout?
They want the sweet $$$ before MS gets a bunch of it.
For a few reasons I suspect.
To try and stanch the bleeding of players.
To try and build some hype around the franchise.
To get something out before the holiday season in the hopes that it would bring in more revenue.
they’re throwing everything they have out the door to keep the quarterly revenues up (and hence, share price up) until the MS acquisition completes
Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4 2023 are going to be empty
They’ve said this before, the majority of the dev time was spent on PVE. They only switched focus to PVP about a year before launch.
3 heroes, 6 maps, new main game mode, 3.5 reworks is more than we got in a single year before.
What will be the excuse if the pve ends up being bare bone? They even say it is going to be released as seasonal content
It was get it out now or let it die on the vine. I think people don’t realize how close it was to getting cancelled. They needed cash now to keep funding the PvE which was still months - maybe years out.
Bobby wants some wins before he leaves post-Microsoft. He can’t have it be that the end of his tenure is just Blizzard sitting on their hands, y’know, working on finishing games.
And since Diablo 4 is still too far out, Overwatch 2 was rushed by some interns into semi-usable state. Best to think of it as Early Access.
More money in battle pass and the skins
