Why did a lot of streamers/youtubers quit?

I remember when McCreamy made videos about this game. I also remember MoonMoon and Tim streaming. Why did they all just quit? I know everything gets old after a while, but the number of content producers has drastically decreased. The playerbase seems so small that I sometimes get people in my games from my friendslist without actually planning to queue at the same time. And the other half of it hasn’t played in months or a year.

Some got tired of the game, got burned out, or found other games. Or some variation of the above and something else.

Because high skill characters were all Low tier so the left to go play FPS games while this game was a MoBA Light.

That is one of the reason this patched happened. They are try to win back those style of players

Yeah I see a lot moved to Fortnite. But even the Fortnite hype seems to be slowing down now.

Balance, some games were much popular and bringing in better views.

But mostly balance, the direction where Blizz is going is now good but it takes a lot more though.

Tim quit because of stream sniping and the game just not looking fun to play.

game is in a garbage state.

Doesn’t every popular streamer get stream sniped though? I don’t watch Dafran much for instance but from what I’ve seen he experiences it a lot.

Why play this when you can play something like Fortnight and have more viewers? More viewers= more subs + more ad revenue. As a streamer it makes sense to chase the money.

The likely reason is after 2 and a half years the devs are still where they where at day one of alpha when it comes to knowing how to balance shooters and changes take too long for it to stay interesting. (SPOILERS: it’s not like this)

Because as usual for Bliz the game is horrible balanced and smashing your self with a hammer is more fun than OW at times.

Streaming and Youtubing is a job for those individuals.

They stopped for the same reason many people leave their job. They either weren’t paid enough, there was more money elsewhere, or they hated their job.

While there is truth in that, you are supposed to do what you love as a job as well. These people that produced Overwatch content seemed to enjoy what they were doing. But one day they just stopped. It already earned them enough views and an audience. But with the playerbase also decreasing, so did their audience. So my question is what drove so many people away from this game?

I started maybe a year and a half ago and I remember playing the Halloween event in 2017 and having over 100 friends online. Now this winter event there were barely 10 on the day of the event let alone afterwards.

Why are you asking the forums? We have no direct contact with streamers, at least I don’t think anyone here does.

Why not just visit their twitch stream or youtube channel, or even reddit page, and post that question there.

Fornite got popular so they followed the views.

muselk bazagaza and other funny content are getting rare
i hate fortnite
thinking on moving to warframe

Well, for one, they didn’t like the direction of the game. Then the game loses popularity (which is normal). Of course Fortnite became the new ‘It’ game and so whilst ow viewership was down fort was up. More views = more money.

  • Followed easy money to Fortnite
  • Overwatch doesnt really update frequently enough to warrant 24/7 coverage. Even some of the update channels like Unit lost or Your Overwatch dont have much to say outside of drama nowadays, which is fine but thats a more niche appeal.
  • General lack of interest

Because mercy meta was dumb, CC meta was frustrating, and GOATs was boring.

The devs moved the game in a direction that wasn’t fun to watch or play, and wasn’t rewarding of time put into the game. This made loads of creaters leave. They then took their most ardent fan and biggest creator (xQc) and banned him multiple times with no apology for when they were wrong. So now xQc won’t stream because he doesn’t want to get perma banned from his favorite game, and because he is getting lots of success streaming other games because no one likes watching GOATs.
