In case you haven’t been following, on the PTR, Enemy Lucio’s “Drop the beat” line has been replaced by a line in Portuguese.
Why ?
Who thought that this was a necessary thing to do ?
Who was getting confused by his enemy Ult line enough to necessitate this change ?
I get adding a couple of hello lines in Portuguese - but the Ult voiceline was fine…

That’s because people have been asking why lucio does not speak any Portuguese if his from Brazil. And when I mean asking I mean crying.

becasue now you can tell if its your or the enemies lucio who is dropping the beat.
also flavor
The “Let’s Drop The Beat” line actually sounds less antagonistic than “Let’s Break it Down”, even though the former is only spoken by Enemy Lucios.
It’s a wonder it wasn’t changed a long time ago if only for that reason.

Lots of heroes say their ult line on their native language.
Lucio doesn’t have anything related to Brazil on his voice lines, so people asked for it.
(And although they gave him a soccer uniform for Summer Games, they say on his backstory that he was a Hockey player, a sport that doesn’t exist in Brazil)

Like how people are crying about the change?

It’s nice to have more heroes speaking their native tongue - I think it’s really cool! And good on Jonny for giving it a go
People, esp. Brazilian players, wanted Lucio to feel more, well… Brazilian. Because he didn’t really have that feel, and hopefully these new lines add some of that

You could always tell. If a friendly Lucio ults, the line you hear is “Oh Lets break it down!” and if an enemy ults, the voice line is “Let’s drop the beat”
I’m almost positive Lucio was meant to be a Canadian but then they just decided to throw a Brazilian backstory to him to make it more interesting.
He IS from Brazil so it didn’t make any sense as to why he didn’t have any Portuguese to begin with.
Since Torb’s daughter speaks their langauge and they knew she would be the native speaker mostly and that she was going to be a hero, they kept him the same. Same applies to Hanzo since his brother is more of the Japanese speaker. I am assuming there will be only 1 person from Brazil hence why they gave him lines.
No, he was Brazilian from the start, hence his backstory and love for soccer. They just said he has hockey gear because everyone at Blizz loves hockey so they thought it would be fun to add it as his skin.
You have no idea how annoying it was for everyone to assume he was african american because he didn’t have any of his native lines despite it clearly saying he was from brazil…
I am glad he has them now.

So you can actually tell if the ultimate was from your team or the enemy’s.
Hearing foreign language is actually a very good audio cue.
I still have a hard time discerning 76’s ult and I’ve been playing since Season 1.
And reinhardt ? how about pharah ?
also ,just because they have relatives speaking said languages isn’t justification
Ana does the lines for Pharah. As for Rein, we may eventually get his lines OR they add another German character. It only makes sense to add their language to a place they are born from and raised. It’s like being born in America and raised in America, and yet never speak English…Makes zero sense.
And yeah it does…there is a clear pattern here. Pharah is also half Canadian whom speak English so there’s that.
Well, half of Brigitte’s lines are in Swedish, so what’s the problem here?
woah ,now that’s some lore I missed out on ,where’d you get that ?
yet the ones I mentioned don’t speak it ,people they’re connected to speaking their native language doesn’t matter ,they themselves don’t ,so I don’t see why it’s necessary to force it upon lucio when he can’t speak Portuguese ,his lines just don’t sound natural.
The hockey thing comes from the fact that they wanted to add a hero who was literally just a hockey player. Jeff said this in a video.
Also, I’m glad they added more flavor with these lines. Does anyone really miss “let’s drop the beat :/”? We still have "OH LET’S BREAK IT DOWN >:O
It was stated that Sam is her father (by Mr. Chu) and that he is Native Canadian due to the comic indicating he meeting him in Canada as well as her skins hinting at it (Thunderbird skin)
According to Brazilians, he speaks very fluently in his language and that Jonny did a great job.
Most heroes say their ultimates in a foreign language when it’s a hostile ultimate.
You couldn’t really tell the difference between an allied sound barrier and an enemy sound barrier. I imagine this was specifically changed for OWL, where it’s not clear at all. IG, you can tell the difference by their intonation and the subsequent sound effect.
