Hi everyone,
As the leader of a gaming community passionate about Overwatch, I’ve noticed a common discussion topic: the challenges in ranking up. I’m curious to hear your perspectives. What do you think are the main reasons players find it difficult to climb the ranks? Is it more about individual skill, team dynamics, game knowledge, or something else?

Accounts old so the system makes it harder, can win 5 and not go up but if i lose at all i stay the same rank. Love my alt accounts though they have easy games and have blown past this accounts top rank time and time again.

You know, some days I do think it’s about game knowledge and “working hard” on my main stuck in gold 2/3. Then I apply that same game knowledge and skill on my alt accounts and go 15-2 pushing me to plat 2 from plat 5. 30 games in btw on the alt account. I doubt I’ll go 0-20 just yet. But what I’m noticing my supports / tank / other dps are aware.
So do I believe in:
aim training - yes
Vod reviews - yes
In game aim training - yes
These help.
Do I believe in truskill ness of uncertainty paired with “certain” profiles and dragging down “aged” accounts. Yes.
It’s almost every game I hear people are apologizing how they haven’t played in awhile. “What’s the new tank like”… when playing on my main account. I don’t get that “new” feeling on my alt cause I’m supposed to be the new person on my team.
Dying in front of my healers on the aged account.
Healers bending backwards and rushing towards me on the alt accounts.

Played and lost two games today, and that’s all I could stomach at this point.
First game - played with a 3 man, maybe 4 man, so that’s already a crappy setup for me as those games are usually harder as it means we’re likely playing a 3+ man as well, if not a 5 man - which we are not because I’m in it. And of course, these are that stupid group of jerks who’s main experience comes from watching Youtube and people can only be X, Y, Z.
Except, them of course. The tank is an ahole from the get go, yet he wouldn’t even play a counter - because as always that only applies to people they play with who AREN’T them or their buddies.
Second game - the bulk of most games nowadays - got a tank who doesn’t know how the game works. Like I get it, its a dead game and tank is a thankless role a lot of the time. But like, why am I playing with people who don’t know basic game mechanics or even the objective of the game?
Then you add in the fact that bot games have probably averaged about 10+% of my games for the past few weeks.
What’s the point?
Blizzard obviously doesn’t care about toxicity or cheating or bots.
And that’s before you get into the matchmaking, leavers, smurfs and all that nonsense.
The whales must be insane.
It takes too long with all the garage(Smurfs etc.) in your way.
Lol. That has never been a thing.
Skill. That is the only reason.

The game is all about team play. So if 1 player on the team isn’t pulling their weight your rank is affected. Play like an animal and it could all be for NOTHING. So why try hard if 99% of the games there is someone not willing to even try pulling their weight?

Yes. And that is why I have reached my peak. No one else is stopping me.

Because I’m not good enough at the game…
to overcome the rigging.

Most likely the fact that people can que agaisnt others 2 tiers higher than them.
example: a silver can get in a match with a plat
Why?
Because people can’t wait 5 minutes for a match so matchmaking is hell and puts people who should never see each other against each other.
Almost every match is a steamroll on one side or the other because either, they end up against people higher than them that they shouldn’t or they end up with people lower than them that they shouldn’t.

looks like others disagree been playing this pile of garbage since its release, its very much a thing. Recently came back i have a 62% win rate at the moment, but if i go 5-2 i dont rank. it happened at plat 2 for a while, eventually went 5-1 and got to plat 1, then won 5 in a row pretty much guaranteeing diamond 5. Im there now, just went 5-2 to still be diamond 5. that will repeat till I get another perfect 5, on alt accounts this doesn’t happen. This has happened since ow2’s release. I climbed from gold with the same thing happening at a 70% win rate; it takes forever to rank, its super frustrating.
And if the system is set up where I get games where I get very little for winning in terms of SR and I’d lose a lot if I lose, the system is broken and shouldnt be that way. For example, if im diamond 5, and I get into a plat game, with a bunch of golds and thats what makes the level of my team plat while the enemy teams average level is actually plat, im going to lose loads of SR for losing this game that is pretty much set up for me to lose, because my rank should carry this game right? But it doesn’t work that way its still a team game.

It absolutely is. The longer you’ve played the more sure the system is of your skill level. So if you pop off and go 5-0 it’s not going to rank you up like it would a newer account.

Matchmaking and skill issues.
This season has been a joke to me. I’ve been gold since season 4 or 5 ?
Now the game has put me into Silver 5 and I keep losing.
I am support main. I press “tab” I have most heals, most kills, most assists, least deaths, both of my DPS are over 1death per min.
So yeah, good question… why can’t I rank up… I’d agree I’ve played poorly my first lost games to go down from G1 to G3. But from then, all my games are like playing slots : will I have decent DPS or not.
It might be a season 9 exclusive problem though because of Mauga has been broken for too long and now he’s fixed, people who got carried along him are now draggign everyone back down. I’ve watched 2 GM streamers, one was top500 for the previous 2 seasons : they both are now in Master and they both have no idea what they’re doing wrong and their stats are still good.
There’s also that insane thing which I’ve been told several times : newcomers are usually put into Gold directly making Gold a heavy glass ceiling as you could either be matched with people like me, Bronze in S1 who learned the game or people who have started playing OW2 2 weeks ago and keep running straight forward in a corridor with Hanzo at the other end of it and blaming supports for “low heals”.
Refusal to learn. The lowest ranked players have the biggest egos for a reason. The ego prevents them from ranking up unless it manifests in very specific ways.
