It is like cba trying to explain to a flat earther why the earth is round if they do not believe the evidence until “god” tells them so. It is like the whole pattern issue, “oh its for other games chuck chuck”. No sorry it is activsion pattern which owns blizzard at this point as tons of witnesses already stated, all the chief executives are from activsion at blizz now or heavily aliened with its board like Alan. Regardless, stating it is not in use across all their IP;s is nonsense. It is like saying Sony with their new microtransaction pattern do not intend to use it across all their future IP:s they see fit for it. You simply do not develop a MM formula and than not use it. Of course you wanna streamline your games for efficiency, just look at ubisoft. But like I said it is w/e. Convincing something to people that believe nothing unless it comes from the horses mouth is a pointless conversation to begin with.

Until then, we can assume they’re implementing rigging, because they have said there is an MMR component to the matchmaking. MMR is not something you ever need unless you’re looking to handicapp and rigg. And here are the patents that show how it works:

US20200114268A1 - Rigged matchmaking so you grind and feel engaged.
US10857468B2 - In-game rigging i.e. dda/hitbox scaling so kids think their hanzo actually landed 4 headshots in a row.
US20160001186A1 - Handicapping teams and rigging balance to make games “fun”.

Can’t find it at the moment. I remember at least one interview between Jeff and an OWL progammer where he mentioned the numbers, but I’m finding hours of those on youtube at the moment with Seagull. I remember the part where he specifically said it can be “a little higher than 3,” because statistically the player he was talking to would have been at that extreme (understanding the math of standard deviations in a normal distribution). I don’t have time to watch all the Jeff/Seagull videos right now to verify. I don’t think it’s the 90 minute one from 2019, as I believe it was older.

There is 0 reason to use MMR to ship matches, if you’re paying, scoring, and ranking people by SR.

MMR is literal rigging ex nihilo. The proof is axiomatic.

How do you think you have any conversational authority to dance around making a legitimate claim with “we can assume” & then turn right back around & ask for evidence from the defendant? You don’t, the answer is you don’t.

Like imagine if the Devs would reveal the MMR mystery and would say that for example the MMR for support is based on how much they do not die. Imagine how many healers would stop healing altogether and would simply stay behind emoting, never pushing up, or if they saw that they maybe could die would then fall back and stand in one place behind some cover not doing anything at all just to pump out their “not dying” stats.

Or for Tanks, damaged blocked determines their MMR. If you thought your Shield Tanks are way too passive and never move forward now, imagine what they would do if their MMR depended on damaged blocked.

If MMR for DPS was determined on for example how many kills they would get, imagine how many feeding DPS you would have in your matches, you would forget about the feeding DPS you have now. So on and so forth.

These priority passes are a perfect example of “how not to give ppl power” and give them the opportunity to decide what and where. You give priority passes to speed up the DPS Q and what you get in return is ppl throwing matches just to farm passes. This is not applicable in 4.3k and above since ppl in those elos are not that stupid to not know how to play what into what or how to play smth. Surely there is a huge difference between a 4.1k Tank player who is a DPS in disguise and a 4.5 Tank main, but in a general sense, if a 4.5 DPS player gets their support and Tank into GM, what does it say about the rest of the community?

Even if the Devs would reveal the “most guarded secret of OW MMR”, you are still going to be stuck in your respective elos, because no amount of whatever reset or secret reveal is magically going to make you play any better. You will still fail to kill the Mercy who is rezzing in front of you because you are too busy chasing the enemy Ball who just keeps evading you.

Man to whom can I pay here for an MMR/SR reset? I will give actual money just to see all these hardstucks getting owned and farmed for being in Gold for the past 5 years and wondering why they are there and disregarding any help they ever managed to get.

This is why I love watching unranked to Gm. Everyone who has ever blamed everything on everything else getting completely farmed by players just simply abusing their bad mouse that prevents them from turning around, them being farmed for not noticing the Mercy rezzing in front of them, them being too busy flaming their team for their picks without noticing that smth else is actually going on and C9-ing because of it, etc.

There wouldn’t be any MMR mystery to reveal if it was simply abolished. Win games to get SR. Win by a lot, lots of times to get some pbsr bonuses. No MMR necessary at all. Why track any hidden performance at all? Why leave any stat exposed to farming/padding it for MMR shifts.

And getting rid of mmr will see a lot less hardstucks. Hardstuck basically means mmr lock-in w.r.t a different long-run no-reset winrate.

An alternate title to this thread could be: Why can’t we see the Matrix? The answer lies in the machinations of the system.
