This is something I’ve never understood about OW2. You buy the Battlepass for $10 worth of coins, and they’ve made their money off your purchase. The Battlepass generates money by only being available for a limited time before the next one comes around, incentivizing people to buy it
That means there’s 0 money to be made by locking that BP content once the season ends, so why do they do it? It’s just not very consumer friendly, if you buy the pass in the time gated window you shouldn’t be timed to complete it
The only answer I came up with was that maybe it’s supposed to motivate people to actively play every season, but that still feels counter-intuitive. I’d definitely be playing more if I could go back and finish old BPs instead of basically quitting after tier 80 (in seasons where I get a pass) unless a friend hits me up
Idk, just seems dumb that this content becomes locked, even though you paid for it, because life came up and you couldn’t play at the end of a season or two when it’s not even profitable for Blizzard to do this
Idk, minecraft dungeons lets me finish old BPs I just figured it’s what made sense. Again, if they want my play time I’d give them plenty if they unlocked my content
From a consumer point of view it does, but not from a business who doesn’t care about what’s best for you.
Sure, as would I. But there are literal millions of people out there who react and follow the manipulative tactics they’ve put out and it makes them money, so they’re not going to stop.
For real, F2P games are competing with paid AAA and indie games, each other, other leisure activities and also like… jobs/school. And there’s so many of them and they damand so much time. Glad more people are calling it out as an inconvenience
Huh? You’ve never bought something before, and then instead of getting what you paid for, you have to take on another job to have what you paid for drip fed to you, and if you don’t finish in an arbitrary amount of time, you just lose your money and get nothing? Well I don’t know what to tell you.
Oh right. This is why I don’t like battle passes. But I didn’t say that. These forums hate it whenever you criticize the battle pass.
I-I mean! Everything is good! Battle pass is super! I wish blizzard would charge $20 instead, I like spending money for the pleasure of buying a second job!
I don’t even hate the idea of a battlepass, just this execution of one. Other games I’ve played didn’t have this issue, but it did make me even more aware of how scummy game companies will be for perceived extra pennies vs an experience that makes sense
AFAIK, Minecraft Dungeons is already done with new content. Probably people got bored fast. (I have the OG Minecraft)
Maybe we can see a good example of a consumer friendly BP system, Deep Rock Galactic, recently (Season 5), they allow us to complete prev. BP (here they are not actually called BP and honestly forgot the name). Also, their BPs are 100% free, and the BP include just cosmetics, all the gameplay features are included in the base game.
How they make money? From the base game, and from cosmetics from time to time, which can only be adquired by buying them with money. (Steam)
I think Fortnite was the first mainstream game with the original concept of BPs with exclusive content, they said BP content WILL NOT come back, which it sucks. (I dont play fortnite).
I have all prev. BPs completed in OW2, and im currently tier 40 in this season, but yes, FOMO is a big factor and it sucks, I wish they could allow us to buy any prev BP and progress them (one at a time). I mean, we still would have to waste coins /buy them.
Maybe, just maybe… buy them if you finish the BP? The 20% more XP from normal matches is not something big, and if you only care about a few items, then you maybe get your money worth even if you dont complete it.
You can grind the BP even if you dont have him. If you are not sure that you cant finish it, just play the game and in the last week look into the BP, what you could unlock and then decide if it worth your money.
