Why can't I rejoin a game after a crash?

Game starts. I’m playing as Hog. While defending, I kill two enemies. Our team wins the first push.
My game crashes. “No graphic device found” or whatever the standard error is that they refuse to fix.
I restart the game. Suspended for 9:38.

Why?
I get that leavers should be punished, but if I just killed two players, was at full HP, my game crashes and the game is up and running 20 seconds later.
Why can’t I rejoin the game? It makes no sense.

Now it’s 5vs6 and there is no way to get a sixth player.
So because my game crashed, all six will (most likely) lose a game.

If the decision is to punish the crashed player (losing SR), you should still let that player rejoin, so the rest of the team wouldn’t necessarily lose.

Even if the though is “Blizzard can’t know if it’s a crash or leaver” then so what? Why can’t the leaver rejoin after rage quit?

You can even add the punishment AFTER the game. Let me rejoin, finish the match and then start the suspension timer.

I can’t see any benefit for not letting you to rejoin a game.
Every other online shooter I’ve played (and had it crashed or DCd) let’s you back in, why not OW?

This is a problem with your system. They’re not “refusing to fix” something, you are. Reinstall your video drivers with a clean installation. Reinstall Windows if you have to. It’s 100% on your end.

You were most likely playing at the beginning of the match. If you leave early in the match, you only have a 10 second window to join back and if you don’t, the match is cancelled. If you leave later into the match however, you can always join back so long as the match is still running it’s course.

No it isn’t. The same thing plagues a lot of players and OW is the only game that does this.
Their answer is “we push your system more than most games, so remove any overclocking etc”.
Windows install is not old, drivers are up to date, no overclocks and I’ve capped the fps to 144, so my system doesn’t really run that hot. CPU is at low % and GPU goes to maybe 65%

I used to have this issue on my laptop. I rolled back the drivers for my GPU and it has never happened since

How do you rejoin in 10 seconds?
It takes like 5 seconds for the battle.net client to even give you the option to launch the game, after the crash. Doesn’t leave much time to launch the game.

But, yeah, I didn’t realize that the game probably was cancelled, so no loss for the other players, which is great.
The crash didn’t happen that early though. Can’t say how long the game had been going at that point though.

I like that the fix is always “make sure you have up to date drivers” and also “use older drivers” :stuck_out_tongue:
In either case, can’t really use older drivers as the error started with the first drivers for RTX and has never gone away.

Thats IT stuff for you

This error was around before the RTX cards and it’s generally with laptops

This is wrong.

It doesn’t matter how quickly you rejoin. If you leave or get DC’ed during the first 45s of the game, it gets cancelled. Not 100% sure if you still get a suspension, but you definitely still lose SR

Sorry, I ment it started for me with the first drivers for RTX. Never had any issues with GTX 770. RTX 2070, any driver, only OW has this.
