So I troll around in qp because using my main gets boring (my main is Baptiste) (surprisingly this is still one of the difference people don’t understand between a main and a 1 trick). I’ll be say lifeweaver right? Or heck maybe I feel like playing mercy (for god knows why). Whenever I feel like absolutely hard carrying a game you know who I go? I go baptiste. Whenever I “bust out my main” in qp the whole lobby gets confused on why I’m so good with this hero. “How does this guy have 8k healing annnndd he just killed 4 of us”
You’d think a hero with THAT much carry potential would be more popular.
he feels like a generic fortnite character

There are no Fortnite Characters or Kits, it’s a Battle Royale…
True yeah
Bap is like the strongest duelist in the game it’s insane he’s not played that much
Although I guess it might be cuz most supports don’t wanna play traditional shoot character
A lot of support players can’t aim well enough to play him.
I think using a lot is not the correct word.
A good portion (myself included) cant aim well enough to make use of Baptiste’s dueling potential. But you look to high Plat, Diamond and Masters (which overall makes up the OTHER half of the playerbase) CAN aim well enough to make plays with Baptiste.
Diamond/masters is indeed where I am LUL.
I don’t like his “tah-tah-tah” gun.
Also his ult is kinda meh imo.
He takes a lot of skill to play + new players need 100 games to pick him in the first place, and at that point they’ve probably already decided to main another support or tank/dps

Honestly, any game I could use Baptiste I just use Zenyatta. He helps nearly guarantee winning the tank duel with just keeping the discord on the tank . I see a lot of Zenyatta players, so I think many others feel the same.

When Baptiste first came out there was a bunch of other changes to heroes done in the same patch. You could sit on the player select screen and not have him selected because people where more interested in the other balance changes over trying the new hero.
I feel his dual firing style puts off some people. If you played a fair bit of Junkrat his healing nades feel just as satisfying to land but his damage output is a burst fire that needs to be more precise. Ana on the other hand just has to shoot any target and doesn’t have to worry about ammo types while Moira is more resource/cooldown based with less damage.
He takes a lot of skill to play effectively like Zenyatta and his ultimate is best used with team support (can be still good used solo just not it’s max potential) but that’s not guaranteed over something safer like nano which can be dumped on one hero.
His team synergy also got cut down in Overwatch 2 while other heroes thrived more and them giving him buffs just to compete shows that. He was the worst support going into Overwatch 2 (data from the beta backed it up) along with Zenyatta who had to get 225hp before them settling on a stronger kick for him.
High skill floor and he hasn’t transitioned well to 5v5 for the average player. Bap excels in close quarters bunker/rush comps. Everyone is more spread out in OW2 so his grenades and regen burst get significantly less value than OW1.
Because Ana is almost always consistently a better choice. Bap is fun, interesting and strong. Ana is just more of those things, and seldom a poor choice at all.

Not so sure I’ve never seen a ana single handedly take down a entire team (I imagine she can but it’s waay less consistent then what I’ve seen baps do), and baps window once you actually learn how to use it (especially solo) becomes one of the strongest things in the game, also lamp go hard.
I am not saying Bap is weak at all. He is very strong. Ana’s entire kit, viewed as a whole, from a supportive standpoint is hard to pass up on, that’s all. It’s clearly the case; it’s why Ana commands a nearly 100% PR across every SR (and has done so, with minimal interruptions in the scheme of things, since her release).
Bap/Ana is viable…but typically, you run something better at keeping both Ana and themselves alive over Bap in that scenario…Bap is strong, but he is easily focused down if pushed heavily -particularly with lamp on CD. He also isn’t ideal in the same way Mercy or Kiriko are at keeping Ana alive. That’s why his PR is so mediocre.

I honestly hate how his heal work. I have a much easier time healing with Ana than I do with Baptiste.
It can be very hard to heal people from range.
You see I’ve heard bap ana isn’t optimal, but like everything that happens around me keeps pointing to the opposite direction, Me and my duo partner run bap and ana that pushes us to diamond masters everything from how they play together how I see Ml7 and Kayjii play together.
It’s so weird cause like I can see the reasons it’s “Bad” I understand perfectly well why people say it’s if not bad just not optimal. But I swear everything I’ve seen just goes in the other direction.
Keep in mind these are bap and ana “Mains” so I guess that might be the primary difference between someone simply trying to force bap and ana together just because they have high healing.
It’s important to consider that if you are duoing with your other support, you are often able to make up for some of the inherent deficiencies of a combo.
I’m a GM support player and I often solo-queue…but when I duo support with a friend I know the playstyle of I know I am able to play maybe more interesting plays. I know better how to peel for them etc, because I know how they play.
Bap/Ana is in no way bad. I’m just telling you why it’s not considered a popular support duo. And, while not always the case, keep in mind also that like you said, if players are able to play the hero they are best at, they are giving their best for their team. Bap/Ana maybe don’t have great synergy, but they also don’t step on each others toes. It’s runnable if people are performing well. As opposed to, say, Lucio Mercy where, even if both players are on their main hero…the lack of synergy (to the extreme) between these two just makes it a rough one to run.
I do think a current issue (the biggest current issue) with the game at the moment is the immense healing creep…and that is primarily down to Ana, frankly (and the synergy between Ana/Kiri/Mercy). If something with that changed, perhaps we would see Bap/Ana as a more popular choice to continue providing that large amount of healing…but as of now, if you can keep Ana alive, she does enough healing for most scenarios…which is why Mercy/Kiri are often the duo choice with her.

Is kiriko even more popular then bap? I saw in a earlier comment bap also had a bad start. Kiriko had her own meta and was the first new support of ow2 (mercy will always be more popular then anyone lol) (this is a different question btw).
