Why aren't the redesigns in Overwatch 2?

We’ve been shown a handful, both on the website and in-game trailers. So why aren’t they in the beta?
I mean hell, Overwatch 2 back in 2019 had all the redesigns that were ready then in-game. Just seems baffling why Blizzard refused to put them in now.

They haven’t worked them in mostly due to the User Interface still being under development (which is not yet final). Remember this Beta is more about testing the 5v5 ruleset and the balance changes made so far.

That makes absolutely 10,000% no sense.

The UI already has the wrong portraits for half the heroes, who cares? What on earth does the character portrait have to do with the skins?

That’s fine and all, but when the promo art depicts characters in their redesign, I expect to have a few of them in the game itself. Maybe I’m asking too much? But I really don’t think so.

I love having OW1 concept art, OW1 Hero Gallery Icons & OW2 art in the Hero Gallery. It’s like a collage of laziness.

It’s a beta. No one cares lol what matters is the presentation in the final product

When aspects like the Kill Feed, or the Hero Gallery (hell even the Scoreboard) look somehow worse than the previous game, I have an issue.
Especially when you look at other gameplay they’ve shown over the last 2 years where it fundementally looks worse. Beta or not, I still expect something nicer.

I honestly agree. I understand there was a lot of issues developing this game that slowed production down but after 2-3 years you’d think we’d at least have the redesigns in the beta at least the ones they have shown so far. I like the direction the game is heading and I am excited about it, but like there could should have been more content for us to try. Its a bit disappointing.

I’ve said this to some friends, but I think it would’ve been sick if they added the Rio mission from Blizzcon in as something for us to try.
Just think about it; whether it’s polished or not, it’s still a slice of PvE for us to enjoy. Adds more to the Beta than what we have now. Also makes people coming back to try Overwatch 2 not just think “oh, it’s just a balance patch”.

Whoever forced it out for OWL view baiting should be put on the chopper.

Yaaa that would have been nice. Hopefully next beta we get a bit more. Honestly my biggest complaint is not having a new support hero still. Like I don’t even care if I don’t like the support, it feels like a slap in the face our last 2 heroes were DPS… like why do you do this blizzard

I actually had asked this on the beta forum, sadly there was no answer provided yet. It seems strange that the characters with new portraits, or even just the first skins revealed at Blizzcon aren’t available yet.

It’s the first beta not everything is gonna be included right away.

Because not all of them are ready? The ones we’ve been shown are the ones they’ve spent the most time on and have finalised. Any adjustments from now till launch are likely to be incredibly minor.

The others likely aren’t finished, or in a state they feel is worth showcasing in gameplay. Take Doom’s, for example. We see his new design in the screenshot with his rework details, but is it in the beta? No. Why? Because that’s likely still an early version of Doomfist. Designing a character, even if not fully from the ground up, is a hard job. In fact, it’s probably harder to do a redesign. Your following is so used to how a character looks, that by changing it you risk losing the appeal of the character. You need to find a way the character still feels and looks like themselves, while also keeping them looking fresh and updated.

Also, in case anyone’s expecting it, Echo won’t be getting a visual redesign. If they give her kit big changes, who can say, but they came out and said that she won’t be getting a redesign alongside the rest of the OW1 roster. This is likely because she was always meant to be an OW2 hero, but was launched in OW1 as some of the back up content they had, after the first delay.

There has to be something left to show for the next beta xD

I expect a preview of the final product, not a mish mash of placeholders.

That’s fair enough. However, for these new designs to have been modelled and have been shown in-game (Sojourn’s trailer showed off so many more), it suggests to us that most of the designs have been finalised; and for good reason, when the game has been in development for almost 3 years.

And, you say they may make slight adjustments in future. OK, cool. Give me the designs they have now, and if they decide to make a choice to change something later, they can.

Again, to have had this redesign be shown in gameplay screenshots implies he has been through the design process. If the developers feel comfortable enough to model in something new, then it implies that it’s finished.

This is something I agree with, but no one complained when the DF redesign was shown off. In fact, I think most people loved it.

Sure but they literally used the new redesigns to promote the beta so it’s obviously confusing that they weren’t included. The promo art included new looks for brig, zen, sigma hanzo and sombra. Yet they’re actually nowhere to be found in the actual beta. I feel like that’s kinda false advertising

You’ve never played any betas before then

This.
Even the OW2 Beta website has screenshots using these redesigns in-game.

It’s not making sense…

Maybe we get a patch half way through the beta that adds the new redesigns ? idk
