Genuinely Im asking who this is for? Why is the longer competitive test in Open Queue? Why does it have perks? I wouldnt be surprised if its still in Season 9 health pools and hitboxes.
The point from the very beginning with 6v6 was to give back the game people paid for. Its advocates as far as Ive seen on the forums near exclusively despise S9, and Id naturally expect that to translate to perks where its fine and fun for 5v5 despite making balance even worse than before, but the literal point of bringing back 6v6 like this is as tests to gauge interest in the classic mode
So why again are we still here actively making choices that the crowd you are actively aiming for hates?
And for the Open Queue bit dont dare say a word about queue times because as far as we saw during the Role Lock phase of the last tests even I as a current top 500 player on DPS barely saw queues above 2 minutes, the queues were healthy, and its worth seeing how theyd do in a more heavily matchmade setting but oh wait we cant because we’re running open queue first for some reason.
I understand and somewhat like S15’s perks trying to help reinvent Overwatch, but can we stop taking the mode that people want back specifically because Overwatch 2 “reinvented” it out of existence and attempting to reinvent it?
Who is the mode even for if you keep doing this?

Overall I agree. It kind of seems like the efforts to bring back 6v6 are really just “5+1v5+1” – i.e. they havent really addressed or changed any of the fundamental design flaws that changed with OW2 and 5v5, and instead are just trying to retrofit an extra player into standard OW2 matches.
I dont just want an extra player per team. I want the old hero design and balance back too. Give back old orisa. Give dps/support their CCs back. Stop making all the new heroes generic damage dealing heroes with overbloated kits that have no weaknesses.
I havent even played this game since perks came out. Do they improve the game? I dont really know nor care because they haven’t really addressed the core problems I have with the game as a whole. So I can’t even tell you whether I think they’d improve 6v6. How sad is that?

This is just one of a few tests to gauge interest and depending on popularity it might become a permanent mode and receive some balancing. OW1 6v6 isn’t happening let’s be real with ourselves it will be ow2 kits with number tweaks at best.
Yeah sadly I realized this the moment the released the first 6v6 test (honestly assumed this prior to that, but this confirmed it). It is very clear they do not want to go back to 6v6. And that’s their prerogative. If that’s what they want to do, cool, but it just sadly won’t involve me playing the game anymore.
Well if 6v6 test is massive and continues to be then there is always a chance no matter how small it is. If you trust what they said about be open to returning to 6v6. The problem is that ow2 is a lot more new players than the old guard so will they really like it as much as the more vocal but smaller ow1 playerbase?
We’ll see. On the one hand I’ve waited over two years giving them plenty of benefits of the doubt and they’ve disappointed me at basically every turn. I’ve hated pretty much every change they’ve made to the game since OW2 came out, so it’s incredibly hard for me to foresee them suddenly doing a 180 and supporting two totally different versions of the game with multiple different versions of certain heroes at once.
On the other hand, they also just brought back loot boxes, so god only knows at this point.
I think they implied the main game changing not it just being a separate mode it would probably require a huge amount of player interest though

The patch is the 2018 one. RQ was a 2019 thing…
They stated that their active focus will continue to be 5v5, but would be willing to support 6v6 with player interest. But the key question is to what degree are they willing to support it?
I suppose the existence of OWC suggests they could be willing to support multiple versions of different heroes at once, but those are also one off modes that were also quite buggy. I’m not convinced they’re willing to do what I’m really interested in them doing. I don’t really want “5v5 with one more player per team” – I want sweeping refactors and undo’s on numerous heroes.
If at some point they announce they’re willing to do that, then fantastic. Otherwise I will just continue not playing the game.
They are referring to the 6v6 tests, not overwatch classic/goats. Two totally different things.
The queues were fine during the 222 test… but they seemed to accomplish that by ejecting match quality completely out of the air lock.
As far as 6v6 being a test to gauge interest in classic modes - why would you think that stuff like the 222 test is a gauge of interest in a permanent classic mode as opposed to the actual classic modes?
Me, I guess.

Why wouldn’t it have perks? Why are you stuck in the past and only want end OW1 6v6 with no changes?

How is there one thread up complaining that 6v6 has perks and another complaining that they should add perks to 6v6
Frankly I dont even get why theyre doing the Classic mode alongside these tests, if they’re really trying to gauge interest theyre doing a disgustingly awful job at it because theres a difference between bringing OW1’s hitboxes and healthpools back alongside double tank and a mode that exists solely for nostalgias sake. You cant determine anymore who is playing what mode and why theyre playing it.
I hate the posts of people talking about Blizzard sabotaging the 6v6 tests but Blizzard is doing a really piss poor job of dissuading that fear when everything they do ruins its integrity as a metric.
And its obvious which is the bigger gauge of 6v6 interest because Classic doesnt get balance patches, they are for nostalgia and cant ever be permanent additions because thats not how live service games work, and the OW2 hero additions are important to the health of the mode since Tank and Support variety was part of the problems that hurt OW1
Biggest of all is that if 6v6 becomes permanent they cant use the Classic mode for it. Why would they? Its a portion of the player base that wouldnt be looking at the new heroes and all their lovely lovely skins to buy.
It’d be disconnected from the market. Which Blizzard would never let happen.
I won’t speak for OP, but my personal opinion on this is because all newer changes (heroes designs, perks, S9 changes, etc) have been built on top of the 5v5 foundation. All of those changes were inherently done with 5v5 and OW2’s game mechanics in mind.
I’m not inherently against perks, but I don’t think it makes a lot of sense to try and retrofit a bunch of OW2 content into what I think a lot of people actually want, which is OW1. Hence, I think it makes more sense to start with the core foundation and then work from there.
Because perks are broken unbalanced nonsense but also bring back some old OW1 stuff (orisa shield, bastion heal/tank)

Its pretty obvious that its for the MRers, direct competition with that other hero shooter/brawler.
Im enjoying it. I prefer RQ but this is the mode I needed

Guys, the S9 changes and perks are staying. That’s part of the game now. Why did you assume it wouldn’t be in 6v6? They’re not reverting to OW1, they’re just adding a 2nd tank. And they’re testing OQ because alot of people like OQ. Hell, all of Marvel Rivals is in OQ and people are loving it. I don’t know what or why you are expecting anything else in that regard.

Terrible, no role queue, every match a stomp, what a sad sad state that is. Was looking forward to 6v6 and already not touching it again - likely they made it terrible so that they can go back to 5v5 and pay less pros in the league - total garbage!

Mind you Im not saying no changes. As much as I think some of the new heroes are incredibly problematic, Im fine with their addition and even think they are necessary to make 6v6 healthier.
But I do think that these wide sweeping changes would be garbage for 6v6. For one, season 9 even only happened as a direct result of the problems that came about from removing a tank slot. I want the old breakpoints back, I dont get why breakpoints got changed before addressing what made damage spiking so common. And the new hitboxes are garbage and horrendous, not just because it obviously rewards missing in a game that was very precise for 7 years, but because it literally ruined the hitboxes for headshots from certain angles on certain heroes making headshots turn into body since the hit reg doesnt penetrate like that.
And biggest of all right now I think that if youre gauging interest in 6v6, the biggest proponents who actively want it back are the ones that despise what overwatch became after the sequel released. It makes no sense to actively push away the largest group of people that want what youre selling, the point of bringing back 6v6 was to give back something that was lost, not this garbage.
And to Bui, youre an idiot. “The season 9 and perks are staying, deal with it” is exactly what people said about 6v6 when the entire forums loved saying “Its never coming back get over it”
its not permanent, no change is. Even bringing back 6v6 was expressly because people despised what Overwatch 2 did to the game. It makes no sense to add the mode back in for people like that if youre just going to pack it full of the wackiest identity altering reworks and additions in the game that caused people to want 6v6 in the first place
