Why are tank players always so bad in comp?

I’ve noticed this. The tank is always the worst guy on the team. Never plays the objective, runs in solo against the enemy team and always dies. If you go 5 v 1 against the enemy team you’re probably going to lose.

On the flip side, on the other team the tank is always on point, grouped up and with their team. Tank players always seem to be the worst.

It’s because you can get a high tank rank for no reason at the beginning. I played 5 and got diamond. My friend won 5 and lost 12 and he got plat 1. Very screwed up system.

Are you bronze? Why is the tank always on point?

The tank probably thought y’all were gonna back him up. When that happens to me its usually because I got a dumb team that can’t keep up with me like the good teams I am used to playing with.

But if you think the enemy tank is always better what about the enemy Hanzo? He is always a smurf that never misses while I get a reaper main who decided to try him out for the first time.

Handicapping with matchmaker happens usually on other roles. E.g. if you are playing support and after 1-3 wins in a row there will be the “let’s see if this guy can carry game”, where the worst player in the lobby is either your dps or tank.

The biggest question is how an earth can they set this up.

Dps/supports will afk practically in spawn and then complain about their tank whilst they do their best to take space.

Tank diff tends to stand out more because there’s only one on each team now. Even the slighest diff becomes noticeable due to this. When one of the tank is getting wrecked, it doesn’t always mean that they’re terrible either. It could just be that the other tank is too good for the elo they’re playing in for whatever reason.

Like for example, if the matchmaker gives both teams a bad tank, nobody is going to call out tank diff.

Its because there is an absurdly small amount of Tank players in the game so the matchmaking has to use a much higher rank gap to fill the teams in causing “Tank diff” which is out of the Tank players control.

It’s why they should have stayed at 6v6. A bad tank= loss. Too much pressure on one person and in low ranks that one person is often just learning to play. So as a team your often counting on a beginner player to have good positioning, create space and not overextend. Yes, both teams often have these issues but then it is still a matter of which tank makes the least mistakes.

There are the matches were the tank is trying to push, play position, etc. and the DPS and supports are off trying to 1v1 all over the map, but I find those instances more rare. It all comes back to 5v5 instead of 6v6.

Whenever someone makes a post about “x role is so bad on my team but so good on the enemy team” it’s normally just a self report they they’re the problem

This isn’t possible. Maybe you just don’t know what good tank play looks like so you aren’t able to identify when your tank does well.

Engagement based match making.

Do you not feel engaged enough?

Your tank is always dying because he’s playing with someone who thinks tanks should always be on point. Got your causation backwards here.

You can’t even get bronze in tank role so this question is not valid. Lowest rank you can get on tank is platinum.

actually they will. the match will then be decided by a DPS and/or Support diff, which will get called out as a tank diff by the losing team anyway.

Last night I had a DPS say tank diff in a game we won and sure enough it was the DPS we had to carry. He out damaged by BOTH of our supports(played reaper for most of the match). The entire lobby had less deaths and all but the enemy mercy had more damage. He was talking trash even though all 4 of his teammates had to hard carry him.

I’m not a tank main but I play it from time to time so by all means I’m not very good or experienced so I make mistakes but from my experience as tank I’m always trying to push in and make space so the team can go forward but I’m never rushing in by myself. I’ll turn around and help out if they’re in trouble or something then continue moving forward. I die and when I’m spectating my team is 20 miles behind me and I’m like why tf are y’all not pushing up with me? I’m fighting a whole team and y’all are spamming ammo from a whole other map. Most DPS don’t play with or back up their tank but always got the most sht to say about the tank.
