Is it a matchmaker issue because it’s hard to believe support is that much more popular than dps. I’m not surprised people enjoy support more but to this extent seems unlikely. Did all the dps players quit this game or is support just that much better now?
cause no one wants to play rock, paper and scissors
DPS and tank queue times are really fast though. It feels like there’s plenty of games for those two. It seems like there are vastly more support players than both tank/dps combined. Either that or matchmaking is just broken.
Many possible reasons…
The dps heroes we have don’t have much of a playerbase. Maybe Genji, but tbh I see more Soldiers, Ashe’s and reapers played than Genji…
And tank playerbase is already tiny and 5 v 5 for tank still sucks, even in Stadium.
Also, the type of player to main dps only, might not be interested in the RPG aspects of Stadium. Maybe they just want fast kills with base kit where everything stays the same. Aka the Cod kids. Whereas flex players are enjoying it.
But as a flex player, the DPS heroes they have are not that fun to me. I’ll be maining DPS in Stadium with Junk next season though.
Where’as literally the most played support heroes are ALL in Stadium right now.
Mercy, Juno, Kiri, Moira. Ana.
Tank playerbase is possibly going to plummet even more with Zen coming next season. But maybe not, since support queues are still going to be jacked and most games will still be Mercy Juno Kiri etc…
And the most fun one is in Stadium too.
probably becuase people quit playing it but i will be honest this game has broken my fighting spirit with the trash matchmaking
Hot take:
Zarya, Mercy/Juno, and Soldier are why tanks/dps aren’t queueing Stadium.
this is not a hot take this is blizzards way of damage control on the broken zarya
Zarya is the most baneed heros
I have longer wait times for Stadium too, on Flex. I think the mid-season patch scared a lot of the players away.
It’s because too many dps mains queue support and stack the offensive traits to get a new flavor of playing.
I think dps-friendly supports and dps-friendly abilities in Stadium are big negatives to this game. I’d rather these mindless dps spam bots play Soldier and Ashe, and stop stinking up the support queue.
Because you play support - free value/low effort role. It’s been busted since forever, and now they can go even further with this new mode. Ofc it will be 20 min q times.
I have a suggestion: boot up stadium training ground.
Step 1: pick Kiriko with the power to create clones and the power to use swiftstep without a target, maybe get a 2nd suzu for good measure.
Step 2. Boost weapon power and weapon speed as high as you can.
Step 3. Teleport in the middle of the most enemy bots as possible.
Spoiler: imagine it like you spawn mini Bobs in the backline with a nuke machinegun and autoaim every 5 or so second.
Now you understand like 70% of why people dont play DPS.
This is partly why I mostly play Mei in stadium .
There’s not really much variety for the damage role in my opinion. It’s mostly boring hitscans. They should’ve diversified the roster from the start to attract a wider range of people. I know when the next season launches I’ll probably play it a good bit due to junkrat being introduced
Yeah I’m kinda sad there isn’t a flanker I enjoy more. There’s basically just Genji and I guess Reaper. Neither of which I typically play. If they added Tracer you’d likely see a lot more dps players. It looks like I’ll have to wait a long time before they add Echo
Diversifying the DPS cast won’t help as much as you people think it will, the problem is simple
Supports are easier to play with better stats and abilities, better damage/healing not to mention they get more cash per round
Juno straight up one shots for free with torpedo after like round 2
Kiri has a clone who just farms
Why do I wanna carry on playing DPS
DPS is pretty fun in stadium, even when it comes to a hero I’ve played 10 times since OW launched. More variety means more playstyles to keeps people engaged with more playstyles
Overwatch is 1/2 MOBA.
Stadium is the most MOBA like mode we’ve ever gotten.
MOBAs are known for having longer game matches because the progression of power and development of a build are core to the game experience.
Ergo, stadium matches are longer.
Give your attention span an exercise and keep playing the mode, or just go back to… any other gamemode.
I’m not surprised that support players are more into MOBA-like game modes. DPS players usually prefer traditional BS-free modes.
But I think the real issue might be the undercooked implementation of Stadium, both from a format PoV and a hero design PoV.
Devs need to take more risks and Stadium is a good canvas to offer a drastically different experience.
I would like to see Stadium as a mode where role identity is really pushed to the max, with no overlap between roles.
I also want to see more build options for each hero.
The lack of viable builds is definitely a problem since day 1.
Every hero has 1 build that is optimal (except d.va because she dosnt have any), with one or two power that can be switched to a different one, the rest just dosnt work and borderline throwing.
They really need to address this and let things go truly wild.
