Why are so many big streamers so toxic?

See i just want to watch some twitch streams before bed so i go down the list for awhile.

I noticed top streams are mostly toxic and mid-low tiers are nice and fun.

Idk if it’s ego but idk why top 500s call other top 500s bad it’s like your both top 500 why are you guys fighting?

Or the streamer will trash talk their team behind their back and i am here like that’s not nice…

Oh course i get permabanned for calling them out and they end up saying if you don’t like it don’t watch.

That’s the thing i like watching the streamer but not when they are toxic…

Idk i know it’s the streaming platform at fault but still they are big streamers and i don’t want more toxic players joining ow and thinking it is ok to be toxic.

I just want most streamers to set aside their egos and help people improve and make ow a better place and community not worse.

That’s all i have to say, i am aware it gives them publicity but like i said streamers should still follow blizzards rules if they gonna stream the game so the game does not get worse.

Idk i just want to share this thought and wondering what the community also thinks about this.

I just want less toxic people in the game so i can finally use voice and text chat again with out being flamed for pointless things.

Cause people love drama and that´s why they are top streamers - cause they are toxic so people go watch them rather than someone nice and calm.

Children (which are the main audience of these streamers) find it funny when the streamer rages and shouts…
I personally cannot stand it and find it really unnerving.

Birds of a feather flock together. Its all about ego; the fans aren’t as good as they want to be or imagine themselves, and live vicariously through the streamer. Same thing for pop culture stars, athletes, musicians, etc. Trash talking and mocking goes hand in hand with a neurotic expression to bolster one’s self up to offset the threat to their self worth which reality brings inevitably to the table. A lack of self-acceptance results in not accepting others ultimately.

I think it might even be somewhat generational for lowered expectations of behavior. In my generation someone acting like XQC is seriously looked down on like “what is wrong with this person, can they not manage their emotions”. Today, the more attitude over substance you can project the more people buy in. It’s a bad trend. Trashy behavior is currently “in”. The danger of streamers acting this way is it normalizes the behavior, then people think this is the standard and take it into R/L.

It’s down to competitiveness and confidence (bordering egotistical for some) mostly. Some will play it up for their own brand too.

But one big thing that people need to stop doing is talking about them so much. Putting them on a platform to shame them can quite easily lead to more people liking them (e.g. x streamer who people can’t stop making threads about on here).

But I’m glad that most aren’t like this - there’s many pro players & streamers that are a great example to people looking to get into the game. I just wish people were more willing to support those they do like rather than berate the ones they don’t.

Most of their toxicity is usually Stream toxicity (or Game toxicity because this is Overwatch). Being toxic pays off, sadly, and so it’s easy to get many viewers (esp from certain youtubers with clickbait titles) when you create as much Drama as possible, look at Donald Trump for example.

Chipsa is probably a good example of this. He is toxic in stream but all I have ever heard of him irl is that he is pretty chill so.

To your point, streamers that are civil I can think of: Fitzyhere, Fenner, Forgiving,… strange all start with “F”

I haven’t seen a female streamer yet that was toxic that I can think of either.

KarQ comes to mind as fairly laid back as well.

I’d like to say that pretty much all the OWL broadcasting team, that also stream, are funny & lovely people to have as community members. They’re the type of people we need more of.

There’s many more streamers I can name too but I’d be here a while.

I could name a few that were involved in some unsavoury social media incidents, but it’d be pointless to do so.

I don’t watch many streamers, but I used to watch one a lot has heard of, especially on this forum: their arrogance and awful attitude, blaming team mates for everything (even if playing Widow is what is losing them most matches), is what eventually made me unfollow and never go back.

I’m just a simple person, so my presence doesn’t matter to them anyway, but to a point, I think “fame” is what fuels them to do and say what they want. They’ll still have a large follower count because of the drama.

Ya I was surprised seeing him calm on stream one day I thought he had taken a Valium or something. It was surprisingly a nice experience.

To add to OP some streamers like J3 have a toxic morning base that I feel like he feeds off. At night he is different.

There is a female version of xqc

Toxic streamers are annoying, but raging streamers are hilarious. Which is why I like Chipsa.
Also Harbleu is good. He doesn’t rage or get toxic at all, even when his teams are totally braindead

I didn’t realize until a little while ago just how young the audience for this game is. I would read things in forums or on reddit and be amazed at how…small minded and pointless it all was. The thing is, the majority of the forums are in their teens, and I suspect so are players on the whole. That means the largest audience for streamers is 12-16 year olds. Being petty and toxic are what appeals to that age group in general.

End of the day, streaming is their job. Think of them like child entertainers and the immature humor, the self-absorbed behavior, and the ridiculous takes make a lot more sense.

Most of them are in their early 20’s, which, let’s be honest, is still basically a child, and they’re putting on a show to appeal to a group that just got out of the 6th grade.

Don’t know if that helps. When I think about it from the perspective of an adult, I’m shocked at how awful people are in this game. When I remember that these are a bunch of kids as close to being toddlers as they are to even the legal drinking age, it makes a lot more sense.

its entertainment. what they do works so its not really a big deal. you could say the same to the angry man children which are footballers some times. every gets toxic and people love drama. its around in all entertainment

It’s not just an Overwatch thing. Strong reactions get more viewers. Streamers like xQc and Tyler1 built their entire stream around their exaggerated reactions.

That being said, there’s still plenty of good streamers out there with decent viewer counts who are for the most part pretty chill.

Only guys who arent as toxic are ml7, flats, beaver, and MAYBE emongg every once in a while.

sleepy, yeetle and morewreth are also not toxic, really love watching them.

Its a reason I’ve really struggled finidng a Genji or Doomfist streamer. I don’t really want to watch commonly but I like to watch good gameplay of my characters.

Instead, it makes me cringe as I see all the stereotypical DPS attitude in their streams. Makes me feel bad even being a DPS player at all. And these people are representing the role? And they’re not getting punished?

It just really annoys me. Not every streamer is like that obviously, not pointing fingers.

Most streamers put on a character while they stream(i.e chipsa, super, etc…)

ya its kind of weird tbh.
