Why are private profiles still a thing?

I want to see what my team plays and what rank everyone is. Stop being ashamed of being a Symmetra onetrick, be proud of it instead. Mute everyone who’s flaming you just for enjoying a character.

I really don’t care what your winrate is, as long as I can see who you play so I can play around it. Every game 10/12 people have a private profile. What is so bad on your profile that you don’t want to show anyone?

Honestly this was one of the worst features ever added to Overwatch, aside from 225 hp McRedacted.

The community proved that it’s too immature and toxic to deal with public profiles.

I don’t expect scoreboards to stick around too long for the same reason. People will get tired of being harassed because of it and the complaints will get louder and louder.

You can always ask people. If you ask in a nice manner, you will most likely get an answer. Having it open to everyone just invites horrible people to make judgments about you, your stats, and sometimes even decide the game is lost from the start.

When private profiles weren’t a thing I was forced to create another account for learning new heroes, simply because of the constant “you’re an x player, get off y”, and it often didn’t stop there.

We’ll get rid of private profiles once this community stops being so toxic, judgmental & elitist. So never.

if the community is toxic just remove the chat and leave the profiles open.

I’d probably get made fun of for being down in my elo anyways but I keep my profile public now because I think its actually funny to look at sometimes. My top modes are game browser and arcade and my least played (besides experimental) is competitive at only 16 hours. My top heroes are even better, winston and torb lol

Stop being a weirdo OP. People keep their profiles private for a reason, they don’t want people to look! It seems obvious, yet I have seen many nosy people complain about them.

I think you knew the answer before you made the thread.

I have only recently private’s mine. It’s been open for everyone to see since I started playing. That was until someone decided I was crap and used my profile against me.

For example, I got a message recently that said - 500hours and you still can’t play for s***! You deserve to be in silver, you’re terrible.

I’m silver due to the number of QP games I’ve played, I have never taken part in comp to see where I am on the ladder. But this guy upset me so much that I decided to private my profile. The message wasn’t too bad compared to what I’ve heard in chat in the past, let’s just say it was the straw that broke the camels back. The reason this one in particular got to me was because the guy that sent the message was a tank who was just playing his own game, diving away from the team and kept screaming for heals. He died a lot and he blamed the healers when really he was just feeding his brains out and not taking the team into consideration when he made his ‘plays’.

As others have said, until people stop being toxic and selfish you’re always going to have private profiles.

Then it would seem that it is a popular option, which likely is a factor in why it still exists.

People need to stop being so “tender and soft”

i don’t think that will change though even with a private profile instead of saying 500+ hours and still in silver they’ll be like silver boarder still in silver.

Its not a shame made from what they play, or even win rate.
Its a shame made by people who mock their choices and stats.

i personally think they should make it where it shows their most played hero when on private and nothing else for their team because that will be very useful for people willing to flex and play around the other person on that role

It was especially bad for Mercy players.

Also, people in games without private profiles(including old OW) give up before the game even starts. They start trolling because they think the game isn’t worth the effort because someone has a slightly lower stat than what they want to see.

95% of all people are respective and lawful, yet we spend millions of dollars to maintain a police system for that rest 5%.

Just bc you don’t profile blaming doesn’t mean others don’t as well.

Censorship decreases the awareness of player about fairness of matches, and the chance of third parties to make serious statistics about fairness of matchmaking.

All this decreases the chance of lawsuits and abandon from player.
