I don’t get it, if someone is meant to make you try harder to secure kills, why get mad? Just improve, it’s the best thing you can do in that situation. Getting mad and claiming counters are unfair, or the counter is “no brain” just makes you look silly, salty, and over all sad.
Who can answer this question without giving a trolling response? I’ve had asked several people why, and all I get is “Game is broken” or “Unfair DPS” or “Unfair support”.
Overwatch, like any game, is about LEARNING your hero and what can and cannot be done with them. It’s a chess game, people have to understand how it works and the only way you can do that, is by just playing.
Because no game that wants to seriously consider itself competitive should have Rock-Paper-Scissors balance.
You don’t watch e-sports to see teams rapidly swapping through characters to counter each other; You watch to see them demonstrate high skill and strategy.
It honestly amazes me how many ppl refuse to switch when a comp isnt working.
The amount of games I have lost when the enemy didnt have a single hit scan so a phara on pur side could have free reign but no they stick to genji being countered by winston and mei constantly.
One word: maining. The whole concept of counters would be much less of an issue if the vast majority of the playerbase wouldn’t main a select few heroes whilst barely touching the rest. And it certainly doesn’t help that certain changes to the game over the years have only incetivized maining even more instead of discouraging it.
That being said, there are some counters in this game that are… err, let’s say problematic from a balance and design viewpoint. Counters should make it harder to play a hero, but said counter should also take sufficient effort. A counter shouldn’t make it practically impossible to play a certain hero (e.g. Release Brig vs Tracer), nor should he/she take considerably less effort to play than the heroes they’re supposed to counter (e.g. Moira). In other words, player agency should still be more important than choosing a certain hero.
Otherwise you just end up with a rock-paper-sciccors system where the winning team is just the one who switches the most. Then the game essentially boils down to an incredibly shallow card game.
because moira and brig are blatantly unfair by design. As a main tank and specifically a Winston main, I do not hate doomfist or reaper or soldier or mcree. All of these heroes are counters to me. but I have a chance to outplay them.
I DO hate moira and brig and mei, because their counter is completely free, and therefore cant be outplayed. because you cant dodge their shots, you cant outdamage them. you just have to switch.
That’s the point of Overwatch strategy, you switch to who is more effective against who. If you’re Genji and a support swaps to Moira, you swap off Genji to someone like Widow, Hanzo, Ashe, or McCree. There’s a reason why you can switch in OW, and it’s so you can counter the counter to you.
If you’re dying to a Moira as a Winston, you got out played, because she should not and cannot 1v1 tanks with ease.
Because I play D’Va and only D’Va, if you want a different tank then you can play that tank yourself by queuing as tank and choosing them. Until then, you have no right to ask me to switch.
I am taking a week off btw in case you are wondering what my response to the current hero bans is.
Not really, she can only out heal your damage with her healing orb. You do 3x the damage she self heals for by right clicking on you. Winston will almost always 1v1 Moira to a win.
