Why must people insist “she wears a thick coat but really she’s definitely not fat?”

Contrary to popular belief, human bodies come in all shapes and sizes and behave as such. A chubby person can be athletic and eat healthy and still be chubby, and a skinny person can eat all the garbage and never work out and still be thin.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with chubby Mei. Don’t be afraid of chubby Mei. Chubby women exist! Chubby women who climb exist! Chubby Mei won’t make her unplayable (unless you’re a jerk who only likes her butt) and it would probably solve a lot of issues she has with her model without her coat.

Chubby Mei should be canon, and we should welcome it!

She has some fat but the coat makes her appear larger than she actually is.

Like, just roll with her carrying extra weight. It’s not that bad.

If she wasn’t originally designed around being fat, her skins bugging out and being fat is obviously undesirable.

If you want a fat girl mascot, wait until they add one actually designed that way, don’t start asking them to inflate someone they already designed.

This isn’t a difficult concept.

There is nothing wrong with chubby Mei, however being chubby isn’t healthy. You can eat healthy but eating too much, even healthy food, is not okay. However that said Mei is still cute.

People want the characters they play in these kinds of games to be “Awesome”, “cool”, “heroic” and other descriptors like it. Its empowerment, escape fantasy. Mei’s description as overweight, curvy, thicc, what have you, basically brings up the idea that she is less than perfect and not desirable to play as a “hero.”

Far too many people conflate the character they player with themselves. This is because they use the character they play as escapism, but ultimately they see themselves as that character - hence peeps getting way upset over how a character is portrayed, and what kinds of costumes they are assigned are incorrect to the way they see the character, and also, the gender roles/imagery that comes along with them (Moira, Mercy, etc.)

Peeps tend not to see Mei as a hero, a brave woman fighting the evils of a dying planet, and just see her as a overweight girl. Unless the player likes that particular aspect, its not seen generally as a good thing.

As far as I’m concerned, she’s on the chubbier side in her new skin and this is just a response to those complaining ¯_(ツ)_/¯

that’s probably cause her bulky clothes covers it in most skins combined with her thingy on the back, so i guess they never bothered with it…so now that all her winter clothes are gone it looks busted as hell, same with her lunar skins…i’m guessing it’s just not a priority for them right now, tho it does look super weird.
