Why are People Defending Heroes being in the Battle-Pass?

I haven’t played AL in a while, perhaps I’ll try a new account this coming weekend and see what it’s like for the fresh meatbags.

Now I just had a flashback to how poor value and how long the grind was for the earlier AL passes. I know it’s improved somewhat but there’s a reason why I never went in on those after that initial experience.

Selling Heroes makes Sense to a Greedy Coorpate Jerk.

It’s Stupid to anyone with even Surface-Level Understanding of how this Game works.

I want to try it again. I played maybe 20hrs total but a few years ago. It just feels very daunting as a new player without friends who play it, even if I’m decent at FPS games. Seems like a steep learning curve and I’ve heard worse things about smurfs and matchmaking there than I have OW.

Super smash bros ultimate sold their characters and they also have a competitive scene. It’s not that unheard of.

SUPER SMASH BROS AND OVERWATCH AREN’T EVEN COMPARABLE!

Seriously, how the Hell are you Comparing an FPS to a Platform Fighter?

That is the Worst Take yet. Apex Legends and League of Legends was Pushing it, but SSBU?!

Is there a big difference? Either way, you don’t have access to potentially OP or game-changing characters.

Yeah it’s almost like I said they tweak new heroes shortly after their launches.

So complain that he’s overpowered and complain that he’s getting changes because you don’t know about them yet. Got it.

2 weeks of experience on a new hero won’t beat someone who has years of experience on an already existing hero. Most new heroes just straight up do not perform well in their first season of release unless they’re genuinely busted. Like I can confidently say the only new heroes since launch that have actually immediately performed very well upon launch were Brigitte, Echo, Illari, Sigma, and Kiriko. With how quickly Mauga just drops to Ana I don’t even think he’d be all that good atm despite being overtuned.

What??? You don’t have Mauga. You’re forcing yourself to play the mode where Mauga is enabled and complaining because you don’t have him and you’re struggling against him.

Then go… play competitive? Where Mauga is completely disabled?

Generally the two defenses I hear are:

1- Other games do it too
2- It’s not that bad since you can unlock the hero for free

Neither of which actually speaks to the merit of whether or not heroes should be in the BattlePass, just excuses it. I have also heard, less frequently to be fair, that Blizzard “needs to” put heroes in the Battle Pass to sell the Battle Pass, which IMO seems more like a condemnation of the rest of the content in the pass than a justification for including heroes. There hasn’t really been many people arguing that heroes in the BattlePass are an actively good thing, just that X or Y makes it okay.

The reality is that there are some people who do and will continue to defend Blizzard at just about every possible turn.

I can’t even describe how distracting the capitalisation in your typing is. I’m looking for an acrostic instead of reading what you’re saying.

Huh, that’s a Cool Puzzle. But no, I just Arbitrarily Capitalise Certain Keywords.

If it was an Acrostic, 100% of it would be Insults about the Game.

I can’t come up with a reason why locking them is good for the player. Blizz, or any large corporation, doesn’t care about what’s good for the player. Those days are gone. I accept reality that heroes in modern-day live service games are locked behind paywalls or grind-walls. It’s reality. Are we actively protesting the state of gaming? Nah, we still play OW, Apex, R6, etc

I believe Apex’s gameplay is generally more simple and accessible than Overwatch? I reckon in your case if you started it competitively you would likely soar up the ranks. I never really got into ranked Apex though, my regular games were sweatier as I didn’t stick with the grind through (you start in Bronze) and to be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of Battle Royales any more. Still, AL is my pick of them if I had to choose one.

Imagine if the FGC complained about paid DLC characters (instead of celebrating them as usually happens), and there are no free path options in FGs either that I can think of when OW2 has multiple.

I think it’s a fair point, well made. I already alluded to similar in the other thread, sadly it seems the OP and Co aren’t interested in (or perhaps capable of?) further understanding or genuine discussion.

If I wanted to I can compare an orange to a camel. Stop gatekeeping the idea of comparing things. The whole point of comparing things is to find similarities and differences. It’s so dumb when people say they can’t be related. And yet they’re both video games, they both have a competitive scene, they both hwve a roster of characters, they both well their heroes. And the goal of both is to kill each other. It’s not that hard to compare these things. It just takes a brain capable of basic thought. Ironic your name is enigma.

im gonna be honest most of the heroes dont interest me like out of all characters released only Kiriko has perked my interest though it taken wins for me ot unlock her i know she was part of a past battle pass but the rest just dont interest me at all

Yea I play a ton of Fortnite but really only with friends. No way can I convince them to try Apex.

Jesse, what the Hell are you talking about?

Camels and Oranges?

Err, fine, you want to make up Stupid Arguments, fine, lets go.

Chess is F2P and it doesn’t Pay-Wall Characters.

And Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a Paid Game.

Can you swap mid game a character to counter the enemy character in super smash bro ?

No. Doesn’t mean I can’t compare the games sweetheart.

But those two Games are so Fundamentally Different that you can’t Realistically Compare them.

You can Pretend to because you want to feel oh so Special, but when you’re Comparing Entirely Different Genres of Games to Prove your Point, maybe you should just Realise that your Point sucks.

Weird I already did and found several similarities. Who are you the for that f comparisons. Out here dictating the laws of what can and can’t be compared. Nonsense.
