Why are matches better with my alt?

Matches on my main account have gotten so bad that I decided to bite the bullet and get a new account and try starting fresh.

My matches are now 100x more balanced and more fun.

Win/Loss ratio on my alt account is about 50/50 but on my main account its probably 7 losses for 1 win, and the losses are almost always steamrollers.

If matchmaking is supposed to be “smart” and match you with players close to your skill level, why on earth are the matches with my new account so much more balanced than my old account?

It is the opposite for me, I can’t make any sense of the match making on my alt while my main always seems to steadily climb if I play enough and bad games generally aren’t too severe.

It’s not a matchmaker problem; the matchmaker doesn’t change when you switch accounts. You subconsciously feel unburdened playing with a clean slate, making your game feel more fluid and more enjoyable, thus making your performance better.

thus making your performance better

100% not the problem. On my main, I am matched with a team of potatoes against groups of players coordinating ults, pushes, etc.

The team composition on both sides is completely different on my alt.

I often get the same feeling, when playing on my 4 year old main account, and I also just bought my first alt account last Monday. Do you think that when you do win on your main, there’s maybe a person on the other team who’s feeling the same exact thing about being matched potatoes?

They really seem to go in clusters, don’t they? I had a day last week where it felt like every other team was at least two ranks above my entire team. Either I’d have useless potatoes who did not feel even fit to play in gold or the other team would just feel ridiculously good, like we got mismatched up against a bunch of bored Masters players.

On those days you can get ridiculous pop off games and still lose, or just barely squeek out a win. I shouldn’t have to have a ridiculous 98th percentile game to just barely win, dammit.

I think it is more because people are more chill when playing on alt, going into comp with a mindset “it is fine, this is my alt, not my main, does not matter if we lose”.I know that is my mindset when I play on my alt rather than on main.

This is btw my personal opinion, but I feel much more relaxed playing on my alt rather than main, hence why my alt has more play hours in comp than my main has. I somehow, shamefully, still have this fear of playing comp on my main and I sincerely hate it , the fact that I have this fear playing on my main while on my alt I am like it is ok, just play to improve.

because of MMR, alt accounts dodge MMR
