So Symetta and Torb have the highest win rate in diamond, then in master and grand master it is actually pharah lol. So how and why do these heroes have bad reputations as throw picks? It is interesting to see who has the highest win rates across the ranks. Then to top it off the hero that noone complains about mccree when he is on your team he is accepted, only problem is he has one of the lowest win rate of all 32 heroes lmao.
The overwatch community seems a bit, misleading in game when it comes to hero choice lol.
As far as I know winrate can be manipulated. From what I recall it’s based on how much time you played the character during the match. So ducking out as Sym or Torb in the first few minutes would lower the percentage less then if you stayed on Sym or Torb during the entire match.

pretty much those characters are used in very specific circumstances where they are very strong but they are weak everywhere else so that is why they have very low pickrates(because they are throw picks in most instances) while being very strong in a few different places

The reason their pickrate is so high is because they are only used in situations where they’re good, examples being Torb on Defense and Sym on certain Point to Point and KOTH maps. If ppl used them in every situation they’d have an average pickrate.

You guys all make good points on sym & torb i def agree.
But Pharah? Lol i guess in master and GM the pharmercy is determined and successful?

Low Pick Rate + High Win Rate = Situational characters that are swapped as soon as they stop working. Consider the following Scenarios:
- Sym Plays for 10 minutes. Wins. She gets 10 minutes of Winrate
- Sym plays for 10 minutes. Loses. She gets 10 minutes of LossRate
- Sym Plays for 5 minutes. Swaps to Ashe. Wins. She gets 5 minutes of Winrate.
Scenario 1 rarely happens, otherwise people would pick her more. Scenario 2 only happens when Sym refuses to switch, which isn’t as common as people think. Scenario 3 is VERY common, which causes Sym to piggy back on Ashe’s true winrate.

Situational picks tend to be super powerful in those situations.
Pharah… especially with mercy… and no hitscans to counter can easily carry a game. Defense Torb on some maps and especially against dive can be borderline broken.
Smart players will pick them when they are good and swap off the instant they stop working. That inflates the win rate.

Pharahmercy is better on some maps than others, and godlike on maps like Havana and Lijiang Tower. It is used sparingly in Gm only on maps where it can be fully abused.
