Why are gold players so unbelievably toxic?

Like, it ACTUALLY blows my mind… I have a gold account that I use to practice heroes and warm up and stuff, and it is actually insane how often I get teammates flaming me for no reason during games, when I’m not saying anything and am carrying the team.

There were 3 different games last night where my team told me they were going to report me for “throwing” for literally no reason. I was on fire almost the entire time in those games, had 3 gold medals whole time, got an end of game card each time and didn’t say a word all game to generate any of the abuse I was receiving.

How do you know I didn’t say anything back to them and giving you a false story? You don’t have to take my word for it… my account was actually muted for too many reports of abusive chat so I COULDNT say anything to them during this time… Why was my account reported for abusive chat enough times to get a mute? For literally no reason… like, I keep getting false reported for literally nothing and accused of throwing games.

And then first game of the night, today on that gold account. I am on fire almost the entire time with Ashe (the character that I have an 80%+ win rate in plat on, on this account). We cap 2nd point on Horizon with like 4 minutes to spare… Then on our defense round, as soon as the enemy team caps the FIRST point (they did so with only like a minute left on the timer), my teammates gang up on me (who has 3 gold medals and am on fire almost entire time) “get off Ashe, you are garbage” (teammate A). “F him (he didn’t say F, you can figure out what he actually said), report him for being a one trick” (teammate B) [I’m not even a one trick, like I said, I use that account to practice a wide variety of heroes].

And once again, I’m literally not doing or saying anything to trigger this abuse (remember, my account is silenced so I CANT say anything, even if I wanted to). Anyway, enemy team caps point B with like 3 minutes left on the clock and for some reason the entire team blames ME for it, despite the fact that they got absolutely melted without killing anyone and I killed 3 of the enemy before getting overwhelmed by the other 3.

So I just leave team chat, cuz I’m over my team by that point. Anyway, I carry in both attack and defense rounds of the extra rounds and we end up winning the game. I end the game with both gold medals for elims & damage and I get an end of game card for 55% kill participation with 40 elims vs 5 deaths and 13,300 damage in a 15 minute game…

And THIS is the performance I had, where my team was literally flaming me all game and telling me they were going to report me for “throwing”… like seriously, what the hell is wrong with golds? Why are they like this? Keep in mind, this happens a LOT when I play on this gold account and for the most part, I’m just minding my own business and not even saying anything to the team, just playing my random heroes and performing well with them.

I often have teammates on that account saying in chat “everyone report (me) for throwing, he’s not even doing anything”. When I have 3 gold medals and am putting in more than my fair share of work, the golds are too lacking in game sense to actually understand what I’m doing and realize that I’m helping a lot and their conclusion is to try to get me banned by false reports (some of these games are ones where we win and I end up with an end of game card & potg, as in the situation in my first game of the night tonight)… One more example, I was playing Tracer and snuck behind the enemy team on Blizzard World first point attack. As SOON as I got into the proper position, I saw my teammates start dropping like flies in the kill feed, so instead of attacking, I stayed hidden behind the enemy back line and waited for my team to respawn (which is actually what you are SUPPOSED to do with Tracer in that scenario). One of my teammates then says in chat “wtf, our Tracer is actually throwing. he’s just standing there doing nothing, everyone report him”. Then as my team was advancing to launch another attack at the enemy, I emerged from my hiding spot, pulse bombed a healer, one clipped the other healer and killed another squishy before the team fight even happened… Something I could NOT have done if I had NOT been in proper position before hand, which I was reported for “throwing” when I was setting up the play. Just… ugh…

I want to re-iterate that I am NOT throwing games on that account, just mostly practicing heroes that I feel like playing that are not as strong as my main and sometimes using it to warm up on my main hero. Or sometimes when I just want to chill and play comp games without having the stress of worrying about dropping SR on my tryhard account. And not only that, I am actually climbing at a high win rate on that account (Went from low gold at start of season to where I currently sit at borderline of plat)

So can someone answer this question about golds? If other people that have alts in gold have similar experiences, please share, so I know whether toxicity is just weirdly attracted to me or if its a widespread problem with that elo. I mean, I can somewhat see that on this forum it is, as so many gold players keep making threads about how “I am great, but my garbage teammates make it impossible for me to climb out of gold” but I’d like to hear other people’s experiences with this elo

you are the problem.
you dont belong in gold yet there you are.
ppl like you ruin the ladder by being in ranks you dont belong.

In my experience lower ranks are much nicer and more flexible. Have considered that you are the problem?

Exhibit 1: you smurf in their games

Exhibit 2: statements like this make me question the self-analysis of it’s proponent. It may not be untrue, since you were playing in a rank below the one you belong.

Either way, it shows an adversarial and competitive attitude towards your own teammates. “toxic”, in other terms.

Exhibit 3: I will take your word if you say you never use text or voice chat. But if you do, there’s a good chance there was indeed a reason.

Only you can look at yourself to answer this question. We weren’t there.
Sorry if you really are just unlucky. I usually never join voice or text chats and just focus on myself.

Are they? I found Gold players to actually be the nicest part of the community.

I played on an alt account with a group of people that met up via a Overwatch community and they were generally cool people.

Everyone got along. Cooperated. If I encountered someone being toxic, I just reminded them to focus on the game, and they’d usually comply.

Platinum/Diamond are probably the most Toxic.

Master’s can be a bit so as well. My few experiences with GM… they were pretty awful.

This is also my second account sitting at low plat/high gold exactly like you. This account is used to train DPS most of the time as my main account is mostly Ana and Zarya. So we have a lot in common.

So far i had not more than a hand full of people who were toxic concerning “Tak3r you are s… as Ashe” or something along these lines. I ignore them and move on.

Strange that you experience so much toxicity  Maybe get a mirror and check yourself. I can not belive that you never retaliated in the sense of “stu i carry you potatos" “I do not care my main account is xyc” and stuff like this. The way you get triggered by people claiming to report you is already strange. Further, i have a friend who trash talks a lot “haha ez roll” "ret you” and stuff like this in at least every second game. Besides a warning he did not get a single abusive chat ban and his accout level is 5xx  So your story is fishy

I think you answer your own question right here. There are tons of people with egos too big for their own good.

Maybe I’m just getting super bad luck this season. But it is actually crazy. I’ve never experienced a game where my team would turn on me like a pack of rabid wolves when I was playing well and not even saying anything before.

I don’t even blame people if they don’t believe me when I say I’m not doing anything to provoke these attacks. It sounds unbelievable…

Also in response to taker:

No, I really say nothing to them (I’m silenced, after all. but when I wasn’t silenced, the only time I engaged in an argument with them was when they told me they were reporting me for throwing, because that genuinely pisses me off when I’m doing nothing wrong) . I have no motivation to tell them I carried them or anything. Like I said, I don’t care whether I win or lose on that account (I try to win, but there is no emotional impact on me whether I get the win or not), cuz the purpose is not to climb SR, but to practice heroes and warm up when I want to play on my main.

SO much to read. I like the 80% win rate on Ashe tho. Too bad you are kinda lying when you mention the 80% on Ashe in Plat, when on this account you climbed from low gold to 2511 on Ashe.
Why do you play Ashe on 2 accounts in gold. This account I know is 2511 but was low gold before you climbed, then you play Ashe on another account also in gold?
Later in your post you talk about this account and how you use it to warm up and practice heroes that you are not as strong on as your main account, but this account has you 1 tricking Ashe
So confused right now.

You are a thrower

players that want comp games with no stress ruin the ladder

every game u play in a competitive mode should be try hard

u don’t bring your a game you are bringing everyone else’s sr down who is unlucky enough to get matched with you

and there pointing you out for underperforming
and rightfully so you are throwing there games for your “chill comp”

chill comp doesn’t exsist
thats’s you playing selfishly and playong ony what you want to

don’t worry keep it up and you will be banned and silenced and then suspended

What? I’m in plat… I have 80%+ win rate… what part of that is lying? I’m not sure what exactly you THINK that means, but I haven’t said anything misleading…

When I’m talking about my main, I’m referring to this account because it is the one I am trying to climb on. My other account is the one I use to warmup and practice other heroes on. What is wrong with that, should I NOT practice other heroes to try to expand my hero pool? Should I just one trick Ashe permenantly so that I can’t switch to help the team if they need another healer or tank?

And I never tanked my SR on purpose, it just fell as I was practicing other heroes that I wanted to get good at ( that is why I recently decided to switch it up so that I have one account to practice heroes on and another to use my mains on, so that my SR doesn’t fluctuate wildly anymore).

To be honest, if you have spent enough time on the game in QP/competitive you should be playing most heroes in the game at silver-gold level. The rest you can learn as you go in competitive match.

I never really quite understand people who has alts just for the sake to practice…literally if you are 1-2 tier above where you are you can practice a hero all game and switch when it matters to win the game.

Yes you’re right, you do have an 82% win rate but not in Plat. You got that 82% by rofl stomping the enemy teams in low gold and climbed into plat by just a hair.
Not I have an 80% win rate in Plat, because you don’t.

most of overwatch players are in gold (the average rank)
I believe 30% of overwatch players are in gold.

the more players are in a certain rank the more toxic players you will find (I think)

The fact is you are not playing to win. You are playing to warm up or practice. I’m sure you wouldn’t want players doing that in your plat games. No wonder they report you.

We’re closing this topic as it’s largely complaining about a disciplinary action and its impact on gameplay. Discussing disciplinary actions is a violation of the Forum Code of Conduct.

Calling out an entire ranks of players for toxicity is also pretty close to trolling.
