Why are brand new players in diamond lobbies?

Now, I don’t want to rag on the new players for you know, ending up in a diamond comp game. Not their fault (though it absolutely is their fault when they, instead of grouping up to go to high ground on soldier, they instead int in alone into a Rein to give him a hi-five for the fifth time and complain when it doesn’t work).

But why are they there? This guy went 3-16, with those three kills coming from him visoring after a huge anti and just overall the enemy team all being one health. He had like an hour of experience, terrible mechanics, and terrible positioning. No concept of how abilities interacted or anything.

Why is he in a diamond lobby in comp?

Be kind to your friendly neighborhood potato. They will one day graduate to meat shield, and finally decoy.

I’ll be friendly to them when they don’t sling slurs at me at the same rate the enemy Bastion fires bullets.

Because match-making is virtually non-existent. Faced with declining player-base, it has no choice but to put players of insanely different skill levels together to just make a game somehow.

See, I’d understand that if it were a tank that was new, considering how few tanks we have playing. But at the moment dps queues are pretty regularly the longest (e.g. most players playing). So I’m not sure how well that tracks.

half of the ‘new’ accounts in this game are youtubers doing unranked to gm vids

I assure you this person was not gm in any sense of the word.

Because now MMR is applied from QP to Competitive mode, and you can even be GM1 on a brand new account.

Oh cool, I’ll go make a new one and grind my tank up there real quick then.
