I never feel like I’m making an impact with him. I don’t know when to use each aura. My boops never seem to work. My movement seems predictable even with wallriding and ADAD strafing.
Why do I suck with froggy boi?

I’d recommend watching some youtube/twitch videos of top500 or professional players (like Ark from NYXL) on Lucio and try to learn from that.
Wall rides are really important and stay around your team mates. Speed boost on rollouts, Use your heals when you’re in a bubble of your team. If you need to boop do it defensively or if the enemy is SUPER low on health boop kills are cool but you won’t get as many as you want.
I watch FunnyAstro and tried mimicking his playstyle but it hasn’t been working out very well. :I
What do you mean by this?
Changes in the game over time has just knocked Lucio down a few. The movement changes hurt him bad. Boop doesn’t knock people back as far as it used to since they can readjust mid air. His auras are tiny so this means he needs to stay close to his team to be effective which means that it’s easy to take him down now since he doesn’t have the freedom he used to. Ult is slow so by the time you cast it, the teammate you meant to save is usually dead.
Speed boost is obviously his best asset to make up for his minimal healing so make sure you get good use out of it with amp. This is good for getting injured allies out of bad spots, or initiating a push. Switching songs is a good idea as well since you can gets the benefits of both if you do it fast enough and a well-placed healing amp with grouped up teammates gives you a little bit of ult charge.
His ult is the slowest charging in the game though, so you need to do damage to make up for this. I’ve also found that Sound Barrier is pretty terrible to use reactively, because of how unreliable it is, and it’s most effective when I use it to force my team to push in.
Thanks for the reply! I usually save amp for healing when everyone is at ~half health or for getting my team away from ults like Visor or Self Destruct.
I did get stunned today by a Brig when trying to use his ult reactively so I’ll try using it like that and see how it goes.
You’re welcome! Sounds like you’re on the right track with amp usage.
CC devastates Lucio. I’ve heard this so many times (from myself or a teammate): “OH LET"S BREAK IT-augghh!” So I’ve gone away from prioritizing Sound Barrier as a defensive ult.
If you have say a tank near you and a dps or any number of teammates around you more than 1 use your heals. Don’t be afraid to help in the fight but use your heals and amp it up when things get heavy
To be effective at his wallrides takes a lot of time and practice. Some good players to watch are Tobi, ArK, dhaK and Kellex.
I’m always confused on this actually because I’ve heard mixed opinions on it. Some say amp heals because, well they’re heals, and others say to amp speed because a) it’s hard to outheal damage even when amped, and b) you can make ADAD strafing more effective and mitigate damage that way. I’ve just been amping heals because of the ult charge.
Oh buddy Lucio is hard to pick up okay? It takes awhile to really master him. If you want I can make a playlist full of Lucio how to play guides and put the link in here so you can check some out? Plus with his healing being an aura it’s quite hard to tell how much you are actually doing unless you consistently check your medals
I recommend watching Eskay. He’s a beast.
Other than that, Lúcio is the support with the highest skill ceiling - some would argue that’s Ana, but seeing how Lúcio’s wallride has no potential limits, imo that’s him -, so it’s naturally hard to make him work.
High mobility, low heals that work in area, he needs the team to work a little bit with him. He’s also great to take Widowmakers out, btw. His ult needs some getting used too and practice is your friend there - get the timing right, not your enemies cooldown, beware of Sombra (because EMP is a pain in the hindquarters superior part.)
Practice his wallriding until it feels natural then work on your aim, positioning and game sense.
Boom! Pro Lúcio!
That would be awesome. His wallride feels like it would be more intuitive on controller than m/k, so a few solid guides would be helpful.
Oh buddy I can already tell you if you are playing on console you need to remap his buttons him and Pharah should have their “jump” aka wall ride and jetpack on one of the triggers it works waaaaaay better that way.
Edit: I think I read that wrong, are you console or pc?
I’m on PC. Been trying to learn him lately, but his wallride just feels clunky on m/k, especially trying to go in circles. I usually just end up jumping around the point or wherever my team is.
Wondering if I’m just missing something simple, or it’s just a practice thing.
For me it’s less so being grouped up and more so using the freedom of mobility to go around topping off players and being more of a secondary healer, if your team is topped off using speed to get into position and if you are in position swapping between speed and heals to make movement more erratic as the speed you move will be different, also keeping in mind that you keep some healing when you swap off so quickly going back and forth will effectively give both auras, I generally find this especially useful when amping as you can heal and use the speed to get to other teammates.
When I was looking into Lucio I kept finding players using either right click or scroll wheel to jump and for me I’ve been using right click to jump as well as space, one of my side buttons is set to shift which works for my alt fire which is the boop, and my scroll wheel is set to swap songs leaving ult and amp up q and e which are default. Having an easier to use jump helps make wall riding, getting the speed boost, and chaining wall rides easier or at least more comfortable. You can quickly double click to jump into a wallride and jump right out for the boost. Without doing this at least on speed your team will mostly outrun you so running to the point and doing this a couple times will help keep them in your aura get there faster and together. The double click also helps you get around quicker so you can heal teammates who need it. Double clicking is also useful whenever something breaks the geometry in a wall. A really good example of this is the windows on dorado if you wall ride and jump into a new wallride on the window and another after they’ll all count as new walls giving a little bit of a height boost as well as the speed boost for leaving the wall. Anther example is first point route 66 every rock texture counts as a new wall you can leave spasm and chain wall rides all the way to attacker spawn using the rock walls If you really want to learn Lucio this is very useful especially getting back to a point
I will say a lot of it is just practice and having the right teams. Supports and how effective they are don’t just depend on who’s playing them but the team surrounding them.
wall skim wall skim wall skim.
Headshots, all the headshots.
get behind, boop people INTO your team - not away!
ribbit
If you know any guides then yes please link them! That would be a big help.
Huh, I’ve been told this wasn’t true anymore but that the momentum from speed is kept when jumping.
The heal kinda lingers for a split second so switching quick enough you get both I mostly just use the small window of both to get to other team members it’s not the same as someone like mouse or bridgitte but there is a little window
