I’m in the OCE server block, and I’m being pushed onto American servers for competitive - COMPETITIVE - play, meaning that I, and everyone else in the game, since it still puts all us Australasians together, have to play on over 200 ping.
My first question is why? … Like, WHYYYYYYYY?!
My second question is, is there a particular reason OverWatch hasn’t been given a tick-box like that found on HotS, where you can elect to NEVER EVER FOR ANY REASON EVER be put onto an American server when you aren’t from the Americas? It’s such a small, simple thing, and it would make all the difference to competitive play during this type of situation. (I hear rumours that Blizzard are being DDOS’d, but if I ctrl shift n I get told that I’m on an LA server from NZ.)
Can anyone shed some light on this? Would really like to get an answer to both of these questions. Thanks in advance

Is there any excuse for not having a region select box by now?! I mean, even PUBG has one… that pathetically half-finished attempt at a game.
FeelsBadMan, stories like this make me glad I’m not on the other side of the pond.

My flatmate raises a good point. Even if OW devs are concerned that the queue times might go up if they introduce this option, why not instead implement a ready-check type system along the lines of League of Legends, which also tells you the ping of the game you’re being offered, so that you can choose to accept or decline the invite. That way people can’t get peevish about queue times because they’ll have to make an active decision to stay in the queue rather than joining a game which they’ll know they’re going to lag in.
There are several solutions to this issue and it just seems like the OW devs have no interest in even looking into it because it only seems to affect us Aussies/Kiwis.
Is there even an OCE server?
I dunno how it is now but since the start OCE players were always on the NA server and had high ping for a long time.
I think there is some network trafficing software you can get that directs you to the closest game server. I’ve seed ads for it in some Overwatch videos.
Edit: I got banned from the forums because people are stupid, so I edited in the name of the software.

@Sushi If you could provide a link for that I’d appreciate it.
@RobotWizard it’s weird, we have our own servers which are in Australia, but our server “group” is still NA
