Why 5v5 is a bad change

People really do act like it’s 5v6

Yes, you and your team will need to be more careful. So will the enemy team.

You may not have as much blocking power, but neither do they. Having a barrier is nice, but not needing to chew through them as much is also nice.

If the enemy team isn’t as strong defensively, then your team doesn’t need to be either.

One tank is much more flexible balance wise because you don’t have to worry about how changing one tank indirectly effects another, which is the primary reason tanks are the way they are currently.

People keep saying this, but no one asked for this change. Tank mains want to play tanks, not dps/tank hybrids.

That’s not really a buff, but a power shift.
Her power level is the same but she can utilise it in more ways.

Who said they were buffing damage? They said they were focusing no making tanks more defensive. Like they said they could give D.va more DM with only one tank… which is just a number change, but they said they were doing much more creative stuff than number changes.

One example of what they are doing. That example in particular is about giving Zarya more decision making opportunities. Do I waste both bubbles on my team, or keep one for myself in reserve?

People need to learn to play around their tanks. This is why tanks hate Rein jail.

They actually said it’s a spectrum and some need more defensive capability (ie dva) and some need more attacking power (orisa)
Essentially they want to make the tank choices matter less from what I saw.

I can’t imagine going down to 1 tank will have a significant reduction to dps queue times. Tanks are still not as fun and have less to pick from than the DPS role.

theyre balancing this game around the average crayon eater rather than the people who are good at the game

just go back to tf2, play valorant or play apex if you actually want a competitive experience
even at this point tf2 has a more competitive feel than this game does

Nope, that’s exactly it. A HUGE problem with tanks right now is you can’t counter a substantial portion of the heroes yet are highly counterable. You rely HEAVILY on dmg or even support to do it. Now you are COMPLETELY dependent on your teammates to take care of what you can’t.

As a tank player since s1 this is where 70% of the frustration of tank comes from (cc/moronic teammates who won’t push with you being the rest). Flyers and your dps are genji/mei? Reaper making your life miserable but you have 2 flankers? Well screw you bud. This just got exponentially worse because no longer will you have someone like zarya backing you up.

I expect you to now have 0 choice what tank you pick. DPS now define the game. Why would any ‘tank player’ stick around for that? You’ll have 100% flex.

I will be happy to be proven wrong.

Yes, I understand the change, but I’m saying it can’t really be used an example of tanks being buffed for 5v5. Essentially the Zarya we saw tonight was the same Zarya, just with more freedom in her playstyle.

Not necessarily numbers. They gave Rein two charges of fire strike, which means more damage overall. I’m fine with a bit more damage, but not at the cost of a smaller shield, and no off tank.

Right, I was addressing the “dps/tank” hybrid comment. The assumption was “buff” = “more damage”. Each tank is different. There are lots of opportunities.

He really isn’t anymore. I was totally with you, but with his latest batch of nerfs he is most accurately an off tank.

So what you’re saying is they’re too lazy to balance tank synergy, so they’re deleting one instead. Gotcha.

IMO, I think the two biggest changes are the tank passives. They are going to adjust each tank hero to fit better in 5v5… but the passives are huge. Especially the ult generation one.

All imma say is Hog gonna need some buffs, there’s no way he’s competing with a 550 health rein with 2 fire strikes and a shield.

Or Zarya who can just bubble his hooks.

As per usual, we got some geniuses running around here with their nuanced views, impressing all around them with their great takes.

You know the tanks are getting reworked right? The tanks will be adjusted to complement this new style of gameplay. Stop slotting this change within the context of Overwatch 1. You have to look at the bigger picture, a lot of things are going to be different, and you cannot definitively say whether it’s good or bad at this point. If they implement these changes properly it could be the best decision they ever made, or it could be a flop. WE DONT KNOW UNTIL WE TRY IT

If you think this change will make this better, I have some news for you.
