Okay, I’ve had multiple ideas of the directions we might take here, and I’m sure half of them get me banned. Like “Who’s the most unpopular forumer?”, but what I’m really asking for here is “Who’s the most unpopular hero?”
As in “Hero that people just don’t like as teammate.”
I’ve yet to see a team not instantly tell me to get off Lifeweaver whenever I’m switching onto him. They don’t even give me time to prove that I’m not a troll, they just tell me to switch. Oh, but that Doomfist/Ball one-trick against a full counter team, he gets to stay, obviously.
Some even have the guts to still tell me to switch even after we completely stomped the enemy team, it’s usually, you guessed it, the negative K/D dead weight.
My initial thought was Lifeweaver and Orisa since you rarely find anyone who mains either of them.
However, I don’t think I’ve ever met an actual Sojourn main but have met one tricks/mains of every other hero. There have been countless people who played her when she was S+ tier but now that she’s more balanced her true lack of popularity is obvious. Everyone who used to play her stopped, showing that nobody really liked her.
I think it’s kind of criminal how badly they fumbled Sojourn. For the most part, her kit is neat. Slide is fun to play with. Molotov is neat. Primary is cool. But the direction they took with railgun was obnoxious and they just sat on it for however-many seasons, and now she’ll always be remembered for that. What a shame.
Funnily enough I was an Orisa main back in OW1. But while there were many changes that made her feel better in her OW2 version - no snare while firing, javelin instead of halt - they replaced barrier with spin and I dropped her. She doesn’t feel like a guardian to me any more, she feels like a bully. It turns out that the hero fantasy was actually important to me. Who knew?
I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been told to swap off lifeweaver since he was released.
The heroes that earn the most groans on insta-lock are Doomfist, Ball, and, like, an unproven widow on a bad widow map.
For me personally, it’s when I insta lock lifeweaver and the other support waits for like 20 seconds—seemingly thinking very hard about what to pick—only to lock Mercy. If I don’t lock first (and generally I can bc SSD lol), I pick my hero around the other support because I’m not selfish. It’s always Mercy, too. And they always suck.
Someone did this years ago in the form of “Forumers You Hate” or something like that. Wild thread lol, 10/10 would want to see take off again.
Anyway, I still find this talk of the LW hate on the Forums to be so random. I find LW mains a lot in my games, and they’re usually excellent and nice people to boot.
Torbjorn is my choice for a certified throw pick. He’s easy to counter, easy to kill, niche enough to not work with many teams, and usually people pick him for the purpose of trolling.
Mauga: I don’t know what it is about him that attracts mains that meet the MINIMUM requirements to be classified as sentient
Mercy: This might just be me, but I detest having a Mercy one-trick as my other support. It’s whatever in qp, but in comp they are always dead weight. Too stubborn to switch, will play her anyway even if there’s nobody to pocket, and gatekeeps you from playing half the support roster.
A character people don’t like having on their team: Probably Wrecking Ball, unless the stigma from OW1 is no longer a thing (I haven’t played him since OW2 launched).
A unpopular character that people don’t want to play: Probably Reaper because of how hard he plateaus after you pass a certain level of skill. That or Mei.
If someone else insta locks mercy, i know i’m in for a bad time 80% of those games. Sometimes the other person has been better at mercy than i am, but most of the time i just want to micro manage them and yell at them for stupid stuff.
Most of the time they don’t even play her. Just stand around, barely fly, only pocket their friend and then run to spawn to wait for them, never shoot or melee…
But if they are good or at least play. Then i’m okay with that
I usually also cringe when someone picks pharah right after i pick mercy. They expect to be pocketed…
And as someone already mentioned, an unproven widowmaker is always a thing to dread.
Probably depends on the role. I’d say Mauga is a strong contender for tank. Orisa isn’t far behind. Venture is an easy hands down least liked DPS hero. For support, probably Lifeweaver but I think he’s less hated than the others I’ve mentioned.
back in the beginning of overwatch and the very first two years, i used voice chat and man did people get mad at me for one tricking widow. it eventually came to where i just muted all coms and chat since both enemy and teammates team where just vile directed at me
dont know how its now but im sure its a bit less? lol… people probably dont talk much nowadays. also i bet sombra is the most hated atm, i wouldnt know that either since i have voice/comms off and yea i play sombra A LOT
i probably play the two most hated heroes in overwatch… o yea… doomfist is probably on their level for most hated as well
