I know my friends and family who very casually game, if at all, are more likely to relate if they can access a cheap derpy version of the OW universe.
The kids playground talk about fortnite and valorant and not overwatch. part of that is because ow wasn’t managed and lost a lot of it’s franchise spam (t-shirts, mercy mugs, genji bedsheets). It’s the lego collabs and mini-series stuffs from 2017 that really gave it taction with future gamers (pre-teens).
So percolating OW into the mobile repertoire may help prime things for OW2 if they combo it with paraphernalia. By then the competitor hype may be died down which is why some of the release delays may be strategic.
No1 is buying OW-themed gifts for xmas 2021. But with a little help from mobile, xmas 2023 might have Sojourn branded oven mitts.

Most kids have their our phones now wdym. My little brother got my old phone to just play games on once my contract ended and I got a better one.
No i’m not excited, if it’s just a literal copy of what we already play then that’s gonna be a huge disappointment.
I don’t even know how that’s gonna work when you need multiple buttons for different abilities, and on a phone you literally don’t have any of that…

If the game is something DIFFERENT from the actual PC game, then sure, it could be ok.
But otherwsise, this doesn’t give us anything. It’s literally just another slap to the face and repeating the same mistakes over and over again!

It’ll be a different game and a spin-off at that.
I don’t know why everyone is upset about this, nobody will make you play it.
On top of that it’s not the devs decision. ON TOP OF THAT, this is literally expanding the brand like a lot of people complain they wasted the brands potential. Just cus it’s not that netflix series they wanted doesn’t make it a bad decision.
I am interested.
And it’s not waste of resources. It literally expands the IP to a HUGE market.
