Skins for the same price as whole games, who’s buying these? I’m not even against the idea in general (as in making money off skins, not charging this much) I just don’t get who has this kind of money and why the hell you’d waste it on something like that.
I imagine if there was a study we’d find that most skin buyers are working class, below the median income level.
People that know how to save and build wealth certainly don’t spend $40 on skins lol, even once they get into seven figure net worth territory.
Who are these crazy prices aimed at?
clowns
The general player base.
They wouldn’t have high prices if the skins didn’t sell.
The studies show that for games like mobile game where people buy in game currency etc… the majority of the income comes from the minority of players.
This suggests the minority of people with more than average expendable money are the ones making most of the purchases.
Also companies that have micro transactions put a lot of effort into determining the price point that will yield the most income from the player base.
So if it’s $80 for the skin you’d better believe that charging less for it (even though you get More potential buyers) won’t make them as much as $80 will
Whales.
Those are usually less than 2% of the players that makes up for all the rest but i doubt OW has even that many considering it is a financial failure.
Even if there’s 500,000 players
2% is 10,000
At $80
Is $800,000
Plenty of money from one skin to keep the game In motion

Me. I spent $48,267 USD on OW in 2022 alone
This is only true for games with infinitely usable purchasable resources, i.e. gems in games like Clash of Clans.
You can only buy an OW2 skin once, so clearly the model isn’t at all accurate for htis game.
To keep the servers running - sure, but probably not so much for any proper content. They are starting to cheap out even on the legendary skins by making recolors of old ones. And there is also the whole other thing with the devs getting no bonuses.
It is the exact same…ow just makes a new skin and there’s the new “currency”
It’s about artificial scarcity. You can also earn the mythic prisms from each season’s battle pass so I think the idea is that you skip a mythic if you don’t like it and then you have other things you could spend them on besides skins. The real problem is that there is no real way to earn it and every mythic skin with the purchase of the battle pass so if you want to get every mythic skin AND the mythic weapon, you have to shell out for it even more.
It basically punishes players who want to collect everything by tacking a stupidly huge price tag onto it.
The same people that will pay 500$ ish to skip the battlepass grind.
I have no idea, I won’t drop a nickel on the game. They made mistakes and won’t man up to them. So I’ll continue to play for free and use default OW 1 skins on characters I can.
I don’t understand who even cares about skins in a first person game. Who are you buying them for? The other team?
the popular overwatch streamers. Jay3, Emongg, Flats, KarQ, Frogger, Aspen etc…
the overwatch streamers mentioned above
the same streamers we watch buy the skins, which influences us to do the same. but they buy every single one, we only really buy the ones we like the most or the ones for our mains. or whatever you can afford.
but its not. that. deep. if its so big of an issue, dont buy it lol. just play the game to play the damn game. ITS NOT DRESS TO IMPRESS. YOU DONT NEED THE FANCY COMSMETICS
My friends and I are software devs. We buy skins in games that we love. I’ve bought games I don’t care much about. A skin is better than that. I do think the prices are too high though.
I would love to see the dashboard on sales. I bet they are not selling at expectations.
its okay that youre poor
