Capture the Flag is a very fun mode, but the main reason it does not work sometimes in Overwatch is because there are two objectives: defend your flag and capture the enemy flag. With One Flag CTF, there is only one objective on the map, just like every other successful Overwatch gamemode. Here are the details for how it should work:
- Neutral flag spawns in the center of the map
- Score the flag by taking it to the enemy base
- Using any ability will drop the flag (since the distance to travel to score is much shorter than two flag CTF)
- Cannot pick up the flag while any ability is active
- Flag does not reset when taking the flag after the enemy has grabbed it, instead the flag becomes yours
- Flag pick up time: instant
- Flag dropped lock time: 3 seconds
- 6 minutes
- 3 flag captures to win
The CTF map would have to be changed slightly, since there is that statue right where the center of the map is. The devs could either make the bottom of the statue hollow having a few small pillars hold up the statue and put the flag at the bottom, or move the statue elsewhere and create two statues to make it symmetrical.
Besides that, I believe that this gamemode would work very well and could possibly even be added into Quick Play and Competitive.

Having it not-instant could have some interesting team battles, though, which is what this game is about! Other than that, I reallyā¦reallyā¦REALLY like this idea! My only regret is that I can give you 1 like. D:

There would still be team battles since the flag carrier cannot use any abilities so they will be very vulnerable. The team will definitely have to escort them to the enemy base.

Mmmm, I didnāt consider thatādespite having read it. Interestingā¦I like it. Would they still be able to shoot? Alternative fire? What would constitute an ability? I.E. would Reinās shield? or just his charge and his flaming getsuga tensho?
It would quickly end up turning into a āTeam that loses the battle pretty much loses the game since the Team that won is now camping the flag and thereās nothing you can do about itā
You can shoot. Alternate fire would work except for ones that are abilities, such as Lucio Boop. And yes, Reinās shield would count. Basically anything that is disabled by Sombra hack (including jump button passive abilities).
You would still able to use the abilities at any time, but using them will drop the flag.

ā¦ya know what? Thatās kinda cool. It forces teamwork, because you have to āescortā that person, instead of a Lucio snagging it and wall riding all the way back.

Yeah it makes sense you should have to go in as a team to score the flag.
is lucio finally balanced there? can he walkclimb with flag or boost himself?

Using Lucio wallride would drop the flag just like it does currently.

You can actually do at least some of this stuff in custom games. 
I donāt think they need new rules for abiliies just movement ones

ive always thought CTF should be like this, one neutral flag in the middle.
I played a game called s4 and they basically had this mode where it was ctf but instead of the flag it was the games mascot and it drains your stamina so you canāt run, do wall jumps or use the special powers. You could still shoot and attack.

I once saw a custom TF2 CTF map called āctf_unintelligenceā where you take the flag to the enemy, instead of the other way around. Iām surprised Iāve not seen it officially in both games.

Sounds pretty good. It would be like Rainmaker from the Splatoon games except you use your regular weapon instead of the flag (Rainmaker in Splatoon; shoots 1-2 shot blasts of ink) and you need more than one capture to win.
