I haven’t played this guy since the test, but on a whim I’ve been picking Hazard in M2T QP to try and add him to my hero pool. I’ve, uh, certainly got a way to go, but I was wondering what the consensus is on his perks.
(For your convenience, click here for his perks.)
HAZARD MINOR PERKS:
OFF THE TOP – Violent Leap’s Slash deals 30% more damage to enemies above 250 health.
RECONSTITUTION – Jagged Wall hits charge Spike Guard with 25 energy, up to 50 extra. MAJOR PERKS:
ANARCHIC ZEAL – Spike Guard’s spikes gain 25% Lifesteal.
DEEP LEAP – Violent Leap’s range is increased by 20%.
It seems to me that as a noob, I should probably go with Reconstitution and Deep Leap?
At the moment, I generally use Leap more for mobility than for the lunge attack. Even if my wall game needs work, it seems to be a safer bet to get more block potential than a small, situational (for me) damage buff.
I’m not sure which way to go for the major, though. It could be that Zeal is a noob trap because of bionade. On the other hand, does a better Leap screw with muscle memory? I haven’t really built that up yet.
I’m interested to hear from any Hazards out there, both about perks and their general experiences in the game right now. Come on in, guys.
For the major, I feel like it can go either way. The healing isn’t very much, and only noticeable if you are hitting multiple players, but sometimes that is the difference between living and dying. More leap distance is always nice.
As for the minor, reconstitution is so good, imo better than his majors. Having that second bar for more block, that is pretty easy to get and you can hold onto it for a while and use when needed.
Off the top is really hard to get value from, unless you are playing in a Stack and you are going for focused attacks on a Tank (non armored preferred).
The Lifesteal is only “decent” if you hit at least 2 people and even so, if Discord is in play or they focus fire, 20% more jump range will yield more kills / safety on average.
I mix in some Hazard with my Tanks being very fond of what his gameplay is like. The perks I usually pick are…
Off the Top if the enemy is running multiple heroes above 250 HP. The bonus likely won’t matter all too much outside of that unless you’re gunning for the tank, but if they’re running some peskier, tankier DPS like Reaper, Torb, or Bastion, it can be a very easy kill netter. Otherwise, I go for the other one.
I almost always choose lifesteal over deeper leap just because any ounce of survivability goes a long way. Unless you’re getting focus fired, anti’d, and/or discorded, even just one target might give you a few more HP til you can get actual healing.
I usually pick Off the Top and Deep Leap most of the time.
I’ve found Off the Top more more generally useful in outdueling or pressuring other tanks. Reconstitution can be nice, but its uptime isn’t enough for me to find consistent use out of it, considering I very rarely use my entire resource.
Tip:
If you find yourself needing to defensively use Spiked Guard too often, it’s because your positioning is in error.
You can actually play pretty fair poke with Hazard with a second tank, as tank HP is more reasonable. Plus, the only reason Hazard is a decent dive tank in 5v5 is because his raw survivability is obscene.
Try to be more opportunistic in how you play Hazard, and peel your teammates — a lot.
Yeah, I’m only playing Max 2 Tanks for as long as it sticks around. Not 122 RQ.
Interesting. How are you playing Hazard as a peeler, exactly? Do you mean just placing yourself directly between flanker and friendly backliner and spiking them until they naff off? I’m still working out exactly what the best gameplan is, given that I explode if I can’t block. I’ve mostly been trying to use my wad of bubblegum to cut off LoS between enemy tanks and supports, as well as making use of my ability to contest high ground.
