Hey there, forum, I want to ask you something that probably will not be answered.
Who in your high-rank opinion are the best characters to play as in Competitive and why?

The one you have the most fun playing.
Okay, then who are you having most fun with?
Ashe (or Widow) if you play hit-scan and Genji (or Doomfist) if you play projectile. You cannot go wrong.
If you play healer, Ana is basically the best character in the game. If you play tank, Orisa.
An interesting suggestion. Thank you for your answer.
In my time playing Competitive Overwatch I peaked 4021 (GM Tier 1) and I’ll share this with you.
DPS :-
Widowmaker (Sombra is great as well)
Tank :-
Orisa (Previously Zarya)
Support :-
Zenyatta (Can be substituted with Mercy at times)
Special Mention - Roadhog, very inconsistent but works well if there is a good D.va player ready to cooperate.
Sadly Reinhardt is very very difficult to play up there, I’ve even seen people doing Wrecking ball and D.va at times as well.
My main McCree is not a good pick for GM Tier 1 (4000-4200) or High Masters (3650 onwards) right now, in Diamond he is still decent unless the player can’t aim that well. Also Soldier is kinda looked down upon at times in the higher levels of play, maybe his new buff might help him out a bit more.
Good luck.
That’s… quite a descriptive one for someone as low as me… (laughs)
But still, thank you for your answer.
No problem. But most importantly try playing the heroes you feel most connected with. For me it is and always will be McCree for some reason. Doomfist is fun as well but I connect with McCree on a whole different level.
Thanks, but that is totally not my case here since I’ve played as every single character and I feel no “connection”. Heck, I was reduced to playing Mercy solely because people I know say stuff like “if you can’t handle her, delete this game”. So I thought “What if I drop a question to some other folks here?” and here we are.
I think you need some motivation, perhaps try forgetting what they said and try doing what you want.
Motivation, huh… interesting.
Right now in my 4.1 games, Mei, Hog, Orisa, and of course Ana are all doing really well. Of course there are also nutty Widows, but if you’re not a nutty Widow, don’t try it lol.
I highly recommend hog. Simple character, not too mechanically demanding. Has a near-invincible heal button so he’s not easily punished.
Hog is the perfect hero for competitive.
Yeah, totally “not so easily” when a certain 1k hp ult appears out of nowhere XDDD
But okay, point taken, thank you for your answer.
If you were the same skill at each hero and had the same amount of enjoyment from each (This is for ladder)
Main Tank: Rein
Off Tank: Any of them
Off Support: Zen
Main Support: Ana
Projectile: Genji
Hitscan: Any of them (Although probably Widow or Tracer)
Hmm… okay. Thank you for your answer.
(still don’t get the difference between most of these “groups”)
Each are a role. So assuming you played one of these roles I picked the best heroes from each, as idk what u play. And if u don’t know what they mean, then u should probably learn a lot more about the game as learning what each role does is one of the basics of the game.
My answer for the first two years was D.VA.
The mobility allowed you to be everywhere. Turret? Down. Pharah Ulting? Nope!
Don’t even have to reload, which wins a lot of fights alone.
But now… i don’t really recommend D.VA. They’ve nerfed Matrix so much, which is okay, but at the same time nerfed armor and her damage. Never got anything in return for the matrix nerfs.
Lately i’m liking Ashe. That dynamite causes some real panic, and her gun feels closer to something i’d use in CoD or Battlefield, aiming down the sights.
It just so happens that all I normally see is what is on screen. There are Tanks, there are Damage and there are Supports. And as I have tried everyone out at this point seeing things like main and off being used like “duh, it’s elementary, dude” sounds even weirder to me even though I look at the local dictionary I was given earlier. It’s just Tanks, Supports and Damage and that’s all the game tells me. Either it needs an advanced tutorial mode or I’m just too stupid for not launching into forums immediately after installing the game.
If I can hit GM on Widow, anyone can.
Oh… okay, cool, thank you for your answer.
(she also has bob and boi do i hate it sometimes XDD)
