I get the sense it’s mostly DPS mains, likely because the roster is chock full of them. I guess it depends on what player feels grieved by the latest patch nerf of their hero main. For awhile, you’d think all the Mei mains were “melting down”, and, of course, there’s a new Brig nerf every other week …
I think none of us can tell from our own perspective of engaging on the forums.
Firstly, who you interact with will be limited by which kinds of threads you participate in. (i.e., if you’re part of every “Rez is bad” thread, arguing on either side, you’re going to run into a lot of Mercy mains who are invested in the subject. OTOH, if you’re part of every “RIP Sym” thread, you’ll find a bunch of Sym mains; if you’re a part of every “Moira RNG no-brain” thread, you’ll find a bunch of Moira and Genji mains, etc.)
Secondly, people have a habit of generalizing their opponents in controversial threads. i.e., Anyone who argues against Moira must be a Genji main, while anyone who defends her “Must be a Moira main”. Anyone who argues against nerfing supports into the ground is just proof that “these forums are dominated with support mains”, and anyone who wants to see supports nerfed is just further proof that “this forum is full of DPS mains who want supports to be free food”.
Thirdly, the forums tend to get flooded by the controversial topics. Nobody makes posts out of the blue saying, “I think Soldier’s pretty much OK right now”, and if they do, few people will feel moved to weigh in. The controversial topics will mostly stem around heroes who have been nerfed/buffed/reworked/called out in a YT video, which will draw out those mains (plus the mains of heroes directly countered by them). Mains of heroes who are in an okay spot and not getting overhauled are less likely to be as vocal.
Fourthly, confirmation bias is a heckuva thing. People who claim that you can’t say anything against support heroes, or you get flayed alive by the mob of support mains, tend to gloss over the many, many threads that have existed unchecked that call for sledgehammer nerfs (up to and including straight-up deletion) against support heroes. People who say that DPS get blamed for every loss gloss over the numerous threads that have explicitly blamed tanks for every loss, etc. If you already think the forums are overrun with Mercy mains, you are going to clock every one you see, while unintentionally overlooking every other type of main that doesn’t confirm what you already “know” to be true.
Finally, I think there are substantially entrenched assumptions—for instance, the fact that in this thread there are people citing D.Va mains as one of the big groups, when I legitimately can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a thread complaining about D.Va’s state. I remember the “DM-bot” days and the introduction of micro-missiles when D.Va threads were e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e, which I could see lending to the illusion that the forum is full of D.Va mains. But that furor has long since died down, but apparently the illusion still persists.
The only way to answer this question would be to see a detailed demographic breakdown of the most-played heroes amongst the various accounts. None of us are going to come up with a good answer based on what we’ve seen in our own experience.
LOL i think the same about Genji ones XD
Both are interchangable
dps streamers are always crying about the forums because there are more diversity here
But we are victims. x _ x
Mercy or Symm, pretty sure they have the biggest posts on these forums.
Lmao same list.
Mercy, Brig, D.Va, Doom. Hands down.
Me personally I feel Mercy mains take up the majority of forum goers.
I feel attacked
I see mostly dps players
All i see is rabid D.Va mains complain about Zarya, Doom, reaper and sombra nonstop. I HATE D.VA
Mercy, sym, dva, brig, moira mains
I remember when downvotes were a thing, anti mercy threads or anyone speaking against moth mercy being busted was being downvoted and flagged into oblivion.
The term elitist DPS players is solely based on support players hatred towards dps players.
Genji and Dva are always the loudest - mercy and sym too
1: sym
2: mercy
3: Genji
4: D.va
5: Doomfist
I just go with the loudest top 5
Taking a basic look at the OW Demographic poll results, it seems that the forums (reddit got included) so here are the mains that document the forums in order I may have missed a character but i’m pretty sure I got all the big ones Link-Overwatch Demographics poll
So umm, realized them all being support mains is probably for good reason, and I’m too lazy to like divide the supports by the number of dps heroes or whatever, so yeah, they’re all supports, makes sense kinda, idk, results could be skewed, who knows what really is true.

2.Mercy
3.Ana
4.Moira
5.Brig
Should check genji, he prob pretty low in mains though.
Doom is kinda popular like mid range they’re pretty loud though, same with dva
symmetra is somewhat close to brig, but I have yet to check hitscan, it just wouldn’t make sense for more symmetra mains then like soldier/McCree mains, i’l check again and update.
My conclusion is that somehow the survey’s didn’t make it to a lot of the dps reddits, but somehow made it to the support ones, low results on McCree and Genji, so yeah, take this with a grain of salt. No way there’s more doom and symmetra mains then genji or McCree mains.
This.
Also One tricks that basically pick other things when someone picks their hero are not “mains”. Please stop calling one tricks that have 95% or more time spent on 1 hero said “hero name mains”.
Some of the reddits are quieter than others. I’m subbed to Ana, Brig, Bap, Zen, Moira, 76, Tracer, Echo, Ball, and Sig, and the most active are Ball and Ana by a fairly big margin. The Sym mains one is also unusually active IIRC.
I highly suspect that activity scales with how highlight clippable a character’s gameplay is.
The most vocal at least are Mercy, Genji, Sym and D.va.
If they main a flanker, chance are they’re pretty vocal.
Why do people say Sym? There are only 4 threads about sym in the past 24 hours and one of them ist about the contender skin.
