Which hero is broken and how should they be balanced?

Hello fellow Overwatch players!

I’m sure we’ve all experienced those moments where we feel like we’re up against an unbeatable hero that just seems broken in the current meta. Whether it’s a hero that’s too overpowered, has too many tools, or has too much mobility, it can be frustrating to play against and can make the game feel unfair.

With that in mind, I wanted to open up a discussion about which hero you feel is the most broken in the current meta, and how you think they should be balanced. Do you think a particular hero needs a nerf, or do you think they’re fine as is? Do you have any ideas for how they could be balanced without taking away from their strengths?

Personally, I feel like Roadhog is the most broken hero in the current meta. I’ve had a lot of difficulty playing against them, and it feels like they have too many tools at their disposal. I think they could be balanced by reducing the range of his Chain Hook ability. This would make it harder for Roadhog to snag enemy heroes from a distance, and would require him to get closer to his targets to use the ability effectively. This would make them a little more fair to play against without taking away from their strengths.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this topic. Who do you think is the most broken hero in the current meta, and how should they be balanced? Let’s start a discussion and see where it takes us!

Widow: Remove her from the game

Sojourn, Widow, Orisa.

Sojourn is just broken altogether. Give her a mercy pocket and she doesnt die and overpowers everyone.

Widow per usual. IDK why they gave her more health. Just delete her.

Orisa has too much CC and health relative to other tanks. She even overpowers Roadhog.
Roadhog could use some nerfs with his healing, maybe reduced mobility when he takes a breather. I dont think his hook and damage should be changed, because hes useless at that point.

Genji, delete him from the game.

Don’t care how many nerfs and balance changes he gets. Theres no character more unfun to vs than Genji. Especially when he is picked every single game.

Hello fellow Overwatch player.

I think currently, one of the biggest problems, if not the biggest, Overwatch faces about Hero balance has to do with how tanks are far too dominant and influential in the game overrall, specifically every tank that isnt Junker Queen, Wrecking Ball and Doomfist need to be nerfed to decrease the role’s overrall influence, maybe even them too.

Other than that, support as always have little to no options, with Kiriko being too strong, Lúcio being too meta and the rest of them not being all that well designed for the game.

DPS aint in too big of an issue i think, Sojourn still hasnt been nerfed enough i suppose and Hanzo basically lacks an role passive and is too weak, but other than that i think its quite basically the least problematic role.

I have to agree on Orisa. When I play her, I can literally just run forward towards the dps and supports spamming my abilities until they are dead.

She also runs over just about any tank. I’ve literally just run haphazardly towards the backline, killed 2, 3, 4 people, then waltzed out with 50% hp or more. Her kit is way too stacked and her fortify pretty much nulifies the best chance to burn her down since she can’t be headshot with it on.

Honestly, the second part is the issue, not the first. I think you would find him fun to play into / with, if it was a “sometimes thing”

I think they will nerf him more personally, PURELY because his crazy high pick rates in low / mid ranks.

Sojourn, Widow & Hog atm imo.

for Sojourn, they need to nerf her rail gun secondary fire as thats the only aspect of her kit that to me, is considered oppressive and unfun to play against.

for Widow, as a Mercy player, I’m sick and tired of constantly having to hug walls and corners 99% of the game and not being able to peek or I pretty much guarantee getting my head popped. The one-shot aspect of her kit needs to be looked imo. I despise one-shots in general tbh but am not opposed to it remaining in game so long as it’s not as oppressive as it currently is (maybe another range nerf?)

for Hog, pretty much the same issue as Widow only he’s extremely beefy & hard to kill if you don’t have an Ana to nade him while he tries to heal. His one-shot hook combo needs to disappear into oblivion. Legitimately looking so forward to his soft rework this month.

Genji is a C tier dps and has a lot of counterplay it’s not like you can just sweep lobbies.

For me though, it’s Kiriko. All she has to do is look at her feet and press E and get instant value in a 1v1 or a team fight. The invincibility frames need to be removed altogether and she’ll be balanced.

Maybe you should just dodge the shot and bait hook   :face_with_hand_over_mouth: Since you want to talk like a clown and give useless advice to me theres my useless advice for you.

Sojourn, Widow, Hog, Orisa, Ramattra, Kiriko, Mercy all need nerfs.

Sojourn needs her slide distance nerfed and her alternate fire needs to be body shot only.

Widow needs her one shot removed and given the Sojourn treatment. 180 to the head. Perhaps give her a second Venom Mine to compensate or something, make her Mines chase targets that have been headshot. Would be thematically fitting for Widow, being chased by tiny ‘spiders.’ Right now Venom Mine is woefully underused, basically set and forget dead ability. Give it purpose and shuffle some of the damage around.

Hog needs his hook distance nerfed and his primary and alternate fire need their damage reduced. I think his healing is fine, without it he will just fall over and die like he did before his heal got changed. Perhaps an ult duration nerf isn’t out of the question either.

Orisa just need longer cooldowns honestly, she can just rotate her stuff like Zarya could prenerf which made her almost unkillable, much like Orisa is now. The recent buffs to her primary fire and ult just enabled Orisa far too much. Her original design was to be a ‘slowly moving fortress’ but now she’s more like a one-man army that is armed to the teeth. She skipped mini-boss status and just evolved into a full on boss.

Ram just need that movement speed toned down to a point where it feels like he can still get in with his ultimate, but people also need to be able to escape. Right now that feels impossible, he just runs you down and if you aren’t a character with insane mobility like Sojourn, you aren’t escaping it.

Kiriko needs to lose the damage immunity on suzu, it just has to go. Widen the area of impact to compensate and perhaps lower the cooldown. It should be used as a cleanse like the ability implies and not used as an immunity akin to something in MMOs. I would also argue that Kitsune needs a slight adjustment, but I’m not sure how to do it. Perhaps the distance the buff extends to needs to be reduced.

Mercy is a hard one. Personally if you asked me, I’d make it so she couldn’t ress tanks, but that’s my hot take. So let’s go with a compromise instead: Reduce the amount of time she has to ress a target, right now the duration is far too forgiving.

I can see why you feel that these characters need nerfs. It can be frustrating to play against overpowered characters, and it’s important for the game to feel balanced and fair for all players. Some of your suggestions, such as reducing Sojourn’s slide distance and Widow’s one shot kill, could potentially address these balance issues. Have you noticed any other specific problems with these characters in your own gameplay?

Sojourn, Kiriko and Orisa

I can play the game in peace when these heroes aren’t meta

For Sojourn, she needs more number nerfs
Kiriko needs immortality removed from E
And Orisa needs cooldown nerfs

Genji can also press E and get instant value in a 1v1 or a team fight  That alone isn’t reason for nerf.

There are a few extra things, like Sojourn’s AoE disruptor ability - it does way too much damage for how easy it is to use. That thing has some of the best area denial in the game. The fact this thing used to have a slow attached to it is mindblowing to me.

You can look at Sojourn at a whole and just wonder “what the hell were Blizzard thinking” when they made this character. They could nerf every ability twice and she would still be really strong.

The same can be said for both Ramattra and Kiriko, you can clearly tell they are new characters to the game because they are absolutely stacked with good abilities.

Like look at Kiriko: 120 damage headshot projectiles is insane on a support. She can teleport through walls at a good distance, she can cleanse all debuffs while providing momentary invulnerability and super buff her entire team with her ultimate, which makes nanoboost look like a weak cup of coffee in comparison. Did I mention she can also wallclimb? Then you look at a character like Zenyatta and wonder why these two heroes are in the same category as support heroes. They are leagues apart in terms of raw design. Basically this is just massive power creep.

The same can be said for Ramattra, look at Ram and Rein and compare the two and their capabilities. It’s a world of difference.

I feel these are the main problems with OW2 right now: New hero power creep, one-shot kills and tanks in general (I could get into a whole new page of discussion about tanks.)

Sojourn (still) and idk, most tanks?

I personally believe that no hero should get the Sombra treatment (getting reworked into something OP then getting gutted to the ground with little to no compensation). So I say:

  • Railgun:

    • Reduce the damage (probably by 2 or more if necessary)
    • Prevent it from generating energy off of barriers and deployables
    • Reduce the alt fire damage by 10 (it will still do 180 headshot damage)
  • Power Slide:

    • Increase the cooldown by 2 seconds OR
    • Prevent Sojourn from firing while sliding
  • Overclock:

    • Either reduce the duration or increase the ult charge required

I believe with these nerfs, she wouldn’t be unplayable. Again, no hero deserves to have the Sombra treatment

The thing is with tanks is they have to be dominant and very powerful as it is the role to be able to hold back push through a team with help from your damage and supports.

When we had 2 tanks it well had to go due to double shields but now ow2 is more fast paced and well tanks should be the strongest role as they need to be threatening enough to make enemies not want to just push through them but also strong to be able to protect their team a tank should be able to either displace a dmg away from the healers etc or be able to kill the dmg as they have to hold the area and now its just 1 tank every other role you get 2 dmg 2 support.

I dont think they should be so op thought to the point one tank us like a free win most scenarios like hog and orisa

I get what you are saying but i gotta disagree with what you are saying with ramattra and rein especially.

Rein is actually very strong against ram u charge him its practically a win u ult him its a win yes ram can punch through the shield but at close reins dmg is higher but slight less range he can beat ram quite a bit tbh especially if rein has lucio.

I agree ram has lot in his kit but vortex is not very strong its probably one of the worst cc effects in ow nemesis is good with the speed and armour dmg is balanced as well.

I agree kiriko there is a 100% power creep but i dont think that with ram

Hmm alot to ponder here

Mercy:
Change to her boost beam,
Boost beam now while active on a target, after X seconds the beam will also cause the target damage the longer it is connected, It also puts a small healing de-buff, to prevent just switching the beam to heals and encouraging Mercy to support another team member.

Widow: a couple of different options.
Change her from a Hitscan to a projectile. even give the round drop-off.
Or
Remove the crit bonus from headshots. perhaps reduce the damage a fraction.
Adjust the Venom mine, so it has a greater effect radius and depuffs those effected.
that subsequently increases the damage or specifically crit damage, from her widow’s kiss rifle.
Map adjustments. Adjustments to large and more troubling maps. with even more cover added to break up some of the more offending areas, maps to still have sniper fire lanes, but should not have any more than ~50m of open area.

Orisa: Post Hog nerfs.
Reduce Range of when damage fall off begins. to 10m-15m
Defensive cooldowns increased.

Ramattra
Reduce bonus movement from 40% to 35%

I have few other hot take ideas but I need more time to think on them etc
