Why on God’s green earth can he deflect melee attacks? (Yes I know he doesn’t reflect the damage, but he protects himself from them.)

It’s unintuitive (should follow defense matrix rules) and meleeing him should be an effective strat to punish overextension.

This isn’t about real world logic, it’s about game logic.

Someone uses an ability that deflects bullets and projectiles, while being vulnerable to beams, you expect to be able to melee them.

How so?

The description of the ability explicitly states it blocks melee attacks. You don’t expect to be able to do something you are told you cannot do.

I think this is a decent “nerf” for him so he can’t just hang around in your face without consequence.

Last time a Genji tried to hang around in my face, he got bullets and arrows in his face :slight_smile:

He’s deflecting. You can’t shoot during deflect. Yeah you can flash… you’re not always going to have it.

You can bait out the ability with quick melee.

It 90% of the time forces Deflect, since most melees look like abilities about to be thrown.

You can also use the time of him doing no damage to plan your next move

then he dashes through you to the floor right behind you, 180, right click, melee. A lot of situations, you’re just screwed. Probably a bit too many.

Well it’s less of Genji pushing against the force of the weapon, and more of him pushing the weapon away from him.

Hence why he takes knockback from abilities/weapons that have it.

I remember when it was a loading screen tip to “press V to do a quick melee to do 40 damage to a deflecting Genji”.

I’ve never tried to melee a Genji in general.

Then that’s him saving one of his cooldowns to counterplay you.

Its like me saying that “I can throw Deflect at 76, but he will just have helix rockets to fire at my feet afterwards!”

Rein’s hammer, Doom’s abilities, boops etc.

I can confirm it true in all my experience as Genji against these abilities.

Except Soldier 76 is not overpowered in any possible way… at all. Not even debatable.

Never said he was, I just spoke of how saving cooldowns to be used as counterplay can go for most heroes.

You know Genji has a double jump, so he’s better off against rockets anyway than most dps… bad example.
