Where is your backbone?

At what point in time, over what seems like the last decade, did gamers lose their backbone? This narrative of “this is what they’re doing, nothing will change that” was not something that always existed. There were mass protests and boycotts, mass social media campaigns, forums were flooded, articles as far as the eye could see. When did these communities become so passive? What happened to the fight?

No, companies don’t have the right to steamroll you. Consumers have the power, because it’s our dollars that make them. The mobile market isn’t connected and informed, so it was easy to take advantage of them from the start, but we were better.

I remember when OG gamers warned us about expansion packs, and we told them it’s not a big deal. Then paid DLC came out, and OG gamers warned us it would get worse. Then paid content packs and cosmetics came out, and they warned us, and we ignored it. Battle passes were the next thing, and I hated it, but “it’s just cosmetics, who cares?” Now it’s actual mechanics and, while it feels too late, I am saying now, this isn’t where it ends. If you don’t want to be where I am right now, wishing I listened to the people that came before me, you might want to start paying attention.

OverKarens are my favourite form of Karen.

I imagine them all with the black hair mercy bob im not allowed to talk about.

Sounds to me like those mass protests and boycotts didn’t work out too well since the games continued in these directions. :man_shrugging:

Before I show you, how do I know you aren’t gonna try and steal my backbone?

Can I poke you with a stick for… science?

Why is it considered “not having a backbone” if players are fine with OW2’s monetization if it means that OW2 gets content for as long as possible?

Weird take tbh. Kinda just insulting other players because they want OW2 content for as long as possible

Have a laugh. We can revisit this when pay2win is all that’s left and you’re in the exact same position I am right now. I’m sure those same people who warned about all that stuff are feeling really validated right now. Glad to give them the win. They were right.

And they didn’t accomplish anything. #RevertMercy, amirite? :joy: :joy:

Except that they did. Things got changed. Things would be much worse if things like Battlefront 2 didn’t get universally demolished. That wasn’t but 5 years ago.

I have been asked this before and I am aware I am an anomaly. You may, but please be careful

There is a difference between a game mechanic and a monetization model. If I’ve learned anything about you over the last week, it’s that you really have a problem with reading comprehension. You should take a course or something.

And this monetization model is the industry standard and has been requested for years (F2P + monetized cosmetics).

It’s not the industry standard to lock core mechanics behind a battle pass, by any means.

I mean LoL, Valorant, Apex all lock heroes behind a grind / grant instant access via paying

In b4 “In those games you can’t swap !!” which is true, but Blizz devs said that 80% of OW players don’t swap either LOL

You’re talking about games that started as free to play, games that don’t allow for hero switches, and some that heroes have no/minimal impact on the game play. This isn’t a moba and it isn’t a point and shoot. Completely different situation.

Literally repeating talking points. Blizzard said people swap between 1-2 characters. If there is only 1 or 2 people that need to be countered per match, then there will only need to be 1-2 swaps per match. If even one person on the team swaps, that was the counter pick mechanic at work. It’s a misleading stat so that people with no brain can point to it as a valid excuse.

Those games are also more reliant on the guns which are not locked away and anyone can use.

OW2 is starting as free to play :hugs:

Heroes have a pretty moderate impact in Valorant and Apex and a BIG impact in LoL lol…

That’s not the point.

80% of OW players are soft-hard OTPs according to Blizz.

They are going to play their main and may swap to a secondary main.

If someone wants to main a new hero THAT badly they will grind for them/buy them. Everyone else will just keep maining their main.

Everyone always plays the new hero for the first week and then after that they go back to their mains anyways lol
