At what point in time, over what seems like the last decade, did gamers lose their backbone? This narrative of “this is what they’re doing, nothing will change that” was not something that always existed. There were mass protests and boycotts, mass social media campaigns, forums were flooded, articles as far as the eye could see. When did these communities become so passive? What happened to the fight?
No, companies don’t have the right to steamroll you. Consumers have the power, because it’s our dollars that make them. The mobile market isn’t connected and informed, so it was easy to take advantage of them from the start, but we were better.
I remember when OG gamers warned us about expansion packs, and we told them it’s not a big deal. Then paid DLC came out, and OG gamers warned us it would get worse. Then paid content packs and cosmetics came out, and they warned us, and we ignored it. Battle passes were the next thing, and I hated it, but “it’s just cosmetics, who cares?” Now it’s actual mechanics and, while it feels too late, I am saying now, this isn’t where it ends. If you don’t want to be where I am right now, wishing I listened to the people that came before me, you might want to start paying attention.
Have a laugh. We can revisit this when pay2win is all that’s left and you’re in the exact same position I am right now. I’m sure those same people who warned about all that stuff are feeling really validated right now. Glad to give them the win. They were right.
Except that they did. Things got changed. Things would be much worse if things like Battlefront 2 didn’t get universally demolished. That wasn’t but 5 years ago.
There is a difference between a game mechanic and a monetization model. If I’ve learned anything about you over the last week, it’s that you really have a problem with reading comprehension. You should take a course or something.
You’re talking about games that started as free to play, games that don’t allow for hero switches, and some that heroes have no/minimal impact on the game play. This isn’t a moba and it isn’t a point and shoot. Completely different situation.
Literally repeating talking points. Blizzard said people swap between 1-2 characters. If there is only 1 or 2 people that need to be countered per match, then there will only need to be 1-2 swaps per match. If even one person on the team swaps, that was the counter pick mechanic at work. It’s a misleading stat so that people with no brain can point to it as a valid excuse.
