Where do I practice DPS?

Title. I am confident in my Support capabilities, and while I hate Tanking at this point I can still hold my own in my opinion. However my DPS game is lacking, and I don’t know where I’m supposed to practice. When I try in comp it makes people angry and I have potential to be reported, while in Quick Play the whole environment is not optimal as it doesn’t simulate the comp atmosphere where I’d want to play DPS.

FFA is the best place to practice dps heroes imo. 4v4 for team based training.

To be fair, this ^^

Your job as DPS is to kill, so FFA is perfect for that.

Although, you can generally get away with being a healer/tank main. How many matches have you played where you absolutely no questions asked needed to play DPS. I bet you can count them on your fingers…

Just practice them in QP, get 10 hours or so on a chosen couple of Heroes, try to aim for 40%+ accuracy, gold damage, and not dying. Once those basic skills are practiced your should be able to play in comp. This advice is subjective as your current rank in comp can affect how you’re matched and even with 10-20 hours of practicing basic mechanics can be like being tossed into the deep end. It seems that the lower your SR, the less of a hit lack of practice in a role or a hero has.

You’re right, it is a low amount times I’ve actually HAD to DPS, but if in 100 games I’ve play in a season I have to play DPS 10 times, I’d wanna be able to win at least half of them to keep my winrate consistent. Plus its never a bad Idea to have a DPS to be really good at, right?

True. But just remove flankers and snipers from the list. You’ll always have one or the other, or both, on a team. They’re like the most popular of the popular kids.

You could also probably remove builders from the list, cos while yes, they have their niche, no one minds if they don’t have one, generally.

My 5 other teammates all do it, so I’d say that you can too

Play Zen and you can practice both support and dps same time!

dm is good too

Oh trust me, I do

Put your profile on private change your profile icon to Widowmaker. Good to go.

FFA or get an alt account for DPS, thats how i got to my skill level on support before i decided to main Ana. Plus it makes you feel good since you don’t base your skill level off one solid number…

Quick Play solo queue or with a team that understands via LFG is fine, or even a team with friends who understand. I would suggest FFA though, at least for accuracy purposes initially. The other option is a new account for the purpose of practicing damage heroes.

comp is. ffa makes you ‘okay’ at killing things, not good at the actual game.

They said they don’t want to use comp because of their team presuring them

FAA. It’s a slaughter pit with instant revives; an absolutely perfect place for training in dps. Sorry that its the obvious answer.

I mean, I’m not so sure its that easy. I do well at DPS in FFA, but I can’t cut it in comp. There’s some sort of disconnect between the modes where what Im doing in FFA isnt helping me in Comp.

IMO, Quick Play and FFA are only good for getting mechanics and solo play down.
I’d say play FFA or QP until you’re comfortable with their mechanics and kit, but once you know how the hero works, start playing competitive to understand how they work with other heroes in specific team comps.

Or just buy an alt account so that you’re placed at an SR that’s consistent with your skill level and climb as you improve.

Practice in competitive, that’s what I do.

Sure you might drop a few hundred in the beginning but even tually you’ll climb back up as a much greater x player

Quick play or FFA. Quick Play if you’re using DPS in a team setting, and FFA if you’re trying to master the hero’s abilities and movement.

What do you play?
