How come Blizzard hasn’t added new ai for custom games? Sombra was the last ai added and Blizzard hasn’t added an new character ais since. Is there a reason for this?
Yeah, would be nice, plus the bots have an awful amount of problems and bugs, but the most recent one is them no longer able to headshot (even though a bug was fixed on PTR with Mei bot attempting to headshot Hammond in ball mode).
Would be great to see the bots fixed and improved, like Ana, Mei, Sombra and Torbjorn bots not reloading after combat like the other bots (Sombra’s AI is very bad, since her changes to stealth and translocate; one of the easiest bots to kill and feed, whereas Torb’s rework has made him a bit scary with ‘E’).
But yeah, I’d love the event bots like Junkrat, Mercy, Symmetra and Orisa to play with and against, even if they don’t use all their abilities and/or ultimates yet, since they can be worked on; Reaper bot doesn’t use teleport, so I’m sure they could add some more bots, or if possible allow us to create and mod them.
They literally have Orisa AI for Uprising, and modifications to the sniper and assassin AI could get you Widow and Tracer or Genji.
Why they haven’t put it in custom games is beyond me.
-Edit- There are literally mostly complete Mercy, Symmetra, and Junkrat AI in Junkenstein. A few tweaks to them and there’s three more AI to add. Can’t believe I forgot these ones.
Because Vs Ai doesn’t provide anything to OWL or comp.
Even though they have a base for Orisa, Symm, and Widow from previous events.
Nobody plays Vs Ai.
(B4 anyone says it, I play a lot of Vs Ai and it’s ridiculous not a single hero has been added)
Arguable. That’s Mercy 1.0 they already said that it’s too difficult to program an AI without a predictable flight pattern. We’ll probably never see Mercy or Pharah in Vs Ai.
Lucio Bot doesn’t use speed boost either. Zen bot doesn’t alt fire.
I think there are a few more abilities bots don’t use but I can’t recall them.
Lucio bot does speed boost, but can’t wallride (obvious hard to code), Zen bot yes can’t alt-fire, Ana doesn’t aim down-scope etc. It’s mainly due to very basic AI (run straight for the objective) which does cheat tbh with collision with enemies; they’ll push you out the way as an enemy, but you can’t do it to them or block them (fun fact: bots actually have collision with each other if you do bots vs bots, just not with human players).
Shame, since the tf2 bots do their jobs pretty well (few bugs and issues for them, but they do their job and retreat, if they sense they’re fighting a losing battle e.g. Heavy and Medic bot shooting a Scout bot, the Scout bot backs off (sometimes waits briefly) and searches for a medkit.
I might actually make a video about the bots behaviour in this game tbh lol, since I haven’t heard many talk about this game’s AI.
Huh I never seen him use it I’ve one seen him on heal.
This is why I was so shocked-and still am- that there are so few bots in Vs Ai. I mean I get it TF2 has a smaller roster, but just seems they DO more than the ones here…
I mean they can get stuck on on Oasis. And it’s the funniest thing ever.
If by “mostly complete” you mean “extraordinarily dumb bots that barely do much more than walk and hold down M1” then yes you’re correct.
But on a more serious note, none of those three AIs is even remotely satisfactory for a real game. They don’t even use their abilities, and if they could it requires a lot of actual intelligence for how to do so.
He seems to use heal, whenever an ally is not close to full health, but the flaw with his AI doing that, is when you’re outside of his aura and not healing you; his AI only heals, if he has a 360 degree sight of seeing an ally with health lost; even worse, is he’ll “Amp it up” when not in range of anyone to heal xD; note, he also appears to have his lock-on through walls still not disabled by the devs, unlike the other bots, who simulate them randomly looking around, even though they know where you are like Lucio bot does.
And yeah, I miss the old bots, since they would go down the stairs, under the hole and up in the middle bit on University, but they no longer do that, due to the navigation change from the Retribution event; it created a few AI bugs like the bots getting stuck at the top on Numbani and the stairs on University, if they happen to go down there (I think this is because the new navigation allows them to jump down places and a small part of the stairs allows the navigation to tell the bots, they can do a small hop down, and bugs them there forever if they attempt to get back up).
I agree, hence I’d love them to be available in custom games only, until they could be worked on properly, since it would be fun to see some new bots fight each other.
Also, I’m shocked they haven’t added extra settings for the bots, like toggling skins in custom games for them to use or auto-cycle (would be great and more different), like the bots do per match in practice vs ai, since it can be tedious switching/changing them yourself.
Actually we got the Oasis thing to happen relatively recently. In the gardens they glitched a corner and were stuck. We capped the point and then sat atop on of the upper areas and watched.
Hm the first thing I think needs to be adjusted is the difficulty modes. Like, the bots do far too little damage in the lower difficulties.
But besides that, there’s no reason for a majority of the cast to be included. I’m sure even advanced techniques can be coded.
Yeah, the bots get stuck way too easy, due to the basic nav they’ve designed for the bots unfortunately; funny if you get one on the boat with you on Rialto, they’ll move and fall off after a while.
Yes, since the easy and medium don’t do a lot of damage (or normal/balanced damage), whereas the hard bots like Roadhog seems to oneshot everyone he comes across (still quite strong now his AI is, considering the headshots being diabled/bugged for the bots).
Well I think that it’s reasonable for Hard bots to have perfect tracking. But I think that a better approach could be the following. An accuracy parameter could be defined by an auto-aim target parameter, which would be the case for all offensive abilities. Defensive abilities would have a 100% hit-rate, so Ana never misses nade when targeting her allies, but can miss sleep dart.
Easy (70% damage & healing, 50% accuracy)
Medium (85% damage & healing, 75% accuracy)
Hard (100% damage & healing, 75% accuracy)
Expert (100% damage & healing, 95% accuracy)
Accuracy would also be a parameter that affects ultimate ability targeting uses, and defines tracking ability. And this probably wouldn’t take that long to code either. I think that a general script could be created for teamwork and grouping up so the AI would do it more readily (and be better on it based on the difficulty level, so that at Expert they group up 100% of the time, but only 25% of the time on Easy).
If nothing else, it would be nice to get used to the different hitboxes that each character has through ais.
Even if they can’t update the bots, I’d still love to be able to change the bot skins in custom games.
You have no idea how large the AI pve scene really is my friend.
I don’t see why they couldn’t update the bots. Could be something worth investing a couple thousand dollars of man-hours in.
I’ve always wanted more bots tbqh
Again, I’m sure it can be coded just like movement or an ability. So for Mercy, Guardian Angel can be used in response to being within too close a proximity to an enemy, or sustaining 1/4 of her max HP in damage at once, or if a teammate has less than 75% max HP.
For damage boost, Mercy boosts a DPS hero (if not, an off-tank) if everyone in her team is topped-off.
During Valk Mercy flies at the highest possible distance and keeps her beam attached to a logical target to affect as many targets as possible.
(If there’s a Pharah Mercy pockets the Pharah unless another teammate falls below 25% HP, then she GA’s towards that teammate.)
Finally, if she’s alone in a 1v1, she pulls out her pistol and lands all her shots
Fun fact: Mercy bot in Junkenstein actually can use her pistol, if you force team 2 in custom games for mercy to use only pistol, and she predicts your movement with her shots, like Zenyatta bot does (there is a bug though, where she shoots at you, but is looking at her ally, due to her being coded to heal, not actually aim and shoot lol).
I was actually gonna record it, but I forgot lol
