So, Ashe has been added to the roster and, once again, a white/ white skinned female has been added and there are ABSOLUTELY NO BLACK FEMALE CHARACTERS . It’s so disappointing:
29 Character. 13 Countries(?) A gerbil AND NOT A SINGLE BLACK WOMAN!
In the beginning I loved the roster was so diverse but now It’s clearly apparent Blizzard wants to follow the same tropes of the industry and have ABSOLUTELY no representation for black women who’re already under represented in the world of media.
I’m taking back all of the “diversity kudos” this game got.
(And before you start, Orisa is a robot and has no Race. Symmetry is Indian and Pharaoh and Ana are arab.)

I mean who cares what race the hero is lol

Not this crap again, can’t we all be happy that we at least got a new hero?

Does it really matter what race they are?
If you honestly can’t like a game because of that factor, maybe tumblr would be better for you

Why people care so much about such things? I will never understand.

Why does it matter? Plus we have Doomfist and ?Orisa?

Don’t you think its strange? Think about how many black women you see on tv or games? Probably close to none Then a game that totes it’s diversity, can manage to create a character for every race and sex completely misses ONE. One already not represented.
I’m sure it doesn’t affect you; you go through your world seeing people like you, your likeness but when you’re an under represented group and you notice you’re the one type apparently not wanted or desired it wouldn’t feel good. Like you’re bottom of the totem poll and nobody likes your type or even wants you existing in their “perfect world”

What’s funny to me is that upon the reveal for Orisa, Jeff mentioned something about there not being enough “larger proportioned females” or something to that effect except for Mei as if Orisa was supposed to technically fit that category as well. I’d imagine they also view her as a black woman.

I must be making a valid point considering someone would rather flag my post rather than engage my discussion. If you can’t beat em, flag em lol

I love the number of people in here genuinely ignorant enough to ask why representation matters.

new hero and still waiting lol
You really saying this?
Rochelle from L4D?
Aveline de Grandpré From Assassin’s Creed?
Storm?
Nadine Ross from Uncharted 4?
Vixen?
Photon?
Anesthesia?
And of course many, many many more from many many many other video games, It’s really not that deep. You can’t get everything you want, Just because we haven’t gotten a black female in the game does not mean Blizzard has lost it’s diverse spark, Do I play orisa because she was made by a black girl? No, I play her because I enjoy playing her from time to time and ofc her lore is also amazing.

Black girl here. I think the representation is perfect which is why I love OW. They don’t white wash the POC characters, they have voice actors that actually represent their nationality instead of hiring some white actor. No stereotypes either. There’s nothing to complain about tbh.

Nowhere, thankfully. Balancing around social politics is possibly the worst mistake you can make. Looking at the state of some of the heroes in this game; I honestly think they are starting to balance around social politics.

It doesnt. Blacks have a lot of representation anyways, if they arent in this video game it isnt the end of the world. You have black actors, like will smith, jamie foxx, barrack obama, who was the president of the united states that one time, and is still a pretty cool guy on twitter, and you have like half of the NBA and solid chunk of NFL players, i really dont get what all the fuss is. You have your own damn holiday, you have one of the greatest men alive, martin luther king, with his own holiday. And you guys invented peanut butter! Pretty sure you made street lamps and stop lights too. Funny how i, i white boy, know more about black history than my own now that i think about it.

you can’t honestly tell me you don’t notice a lack of representation for black women. A handful of characters doesn’t negate that fact. Still, to the point, why NOT Overwatch? We can literally represent everyone except for one group and add more and more white / pale skinned women.
