Overwatch is notoriously slow at everything, balance, cosmetics, heroes, maps etc.
The complaints about this peaked half a year or so and the argument made by the dev team was that a lot of resources went into OWL.
Fine, but it’s been 5 months since and there really hasn’t been much of an improvement when it comes to anything.
Some minor reworks and buffs and nerfs and the normal pace of map and hero releases.
They are supposedly working on a lot of social features.
But if nothing of substance comes out soon it just feels like nothing is happening again.
I am not a dev, but when I look at other games like Fortnite or even other Blizzard games like Hots, there is just so much more happening.
overwatch team is out of their depth, they are so slow because they have no idea what they are doing, thats why they spent so much effort trying to promote league instead of working on bettering the game. Its easier for them to do nothing and get paid than to try and release new heroes that will just break the game further than it already is.
My only guess is that the engine they are using for overwatch breaks pretty easily everytime the change or add anything so then they gotta spend time going in and finding out whats gone wrong.
or maybe im wrong and its something else entirely.
Blizzard is a small indie company and they’re trying their best to produce content as fast as possible.
Because you never send your resume to Blizzard. They need someone like you to pump out new hero new map new balance changes every week
I actually think blizzard is one of the best at bringing changes if you look at huge companies like ubisoft, EA, and rockstar. It takes them almost years to change something. Blizzard is doing fairly well on balancing and releasing new content. You can’t really compare it to fortnite bc it has become probably the most popular game ever to reach the markets. people that never played a game before is even playing fortnite. However I can understand you frustration I just disagree
It’s obviously this.
IMO, anyone who calls a dev team “slow”, “incompetent”, etc, should have to send the devs their resume so that they can either be properly laughed at, or hired to fix the problems.
Blizzard is infamous for being slow to release content, especially given the amount of money it makes. Blizzard can make the best content in the business, when they want to. But they just hardly ever put that much effort into things anymore. They simply do not have to.
The business side of me understands this, but the gamer side of me doesnt like it one bit.
World of Warcraft.
They really aren’t though. However the company’s that I mentioned are known for being slow. And sorry world of war craft is not near as popular as fortnite.
You seem to be under the impression that video games grow on trees, and your exaggerations are top-tier.
Five months and no improvement? Please. We have a new hero, Hanzo Rework with changes coming, Ana changes, Sym rework on the way, Doomfist’s bugs are being addressed, a new deathmatch map AND a payload map. Not to mention all the cosmetic items and voice interactions they just added in addition to the casual cosmetic update at the beginning of the year. If this isn’t what you mean by improvement, what DO you mean? Because you didn’t even specify.
Blizzard and the Overwatch team ARE doing their jobs. Do you want half-developed, half thought out, untested changes? Please. Video games aren’t easy to make and uphold.
none of the items in your list are seen as an improvement by the community.
Fortnite players at peak: 3.94 million
WoW players at peak: 12 million
Wah?
This game is getting more content over the span of several months than most other first person shoters get in a year.
Clearly, but nobody specifies what they want either. They just complain, complain, complain.
There are game companies that put out more content on a quarterly schedule though. And then there was Sony and EQ1, with like 3-4 full game sized expansions per year at its peak.
Kinda true. Personally I want them to work on making comp better and more engaging. I can’t say exactly how, that’s their job and why they get paid. I’d rather them hold off on new events, new content , new heroes and hero overhauls and work on ways to make the game more enjoyable.
While I respect the talent it takes to make a game, implying that you cannot draw comparisons on dev team levels of skill and dedication via comparison between teams / games is, I feel, inaccurate.
When you have teams for similar games making more content for less money then it is bound to bring up the question of what is going on?
The OP asking “Where are the resources going?” is a perfectly valid question.
If you think fortnite has it it’s peak then you are mistaken
Let me know when it hits 12 million players, is making 6,000,000 dollars per day (It was recently celebrating making a million per day so we’ll see.), has a real life theme park (Albeit unlicensed.), and a movie made after it, and I will gladly come back here and admit its hit a point equal to the high-point popularity of WoW. ![]()
Comparing massive companies like Sony to Blizzard though, when they deal with entirely different types of franchises, is a bit of an unfair comparison. They have more developing power than the Overwatch team.
But then you’ve got the other half of the players complaining there’s no new content. I personally love this game and am perfectly content with it, it’s very enjoyable for me both by myself and with friends. Degrees of interest vary from person to person, I can’t imagine it’s easy to find a middle ground while These players want new content every week but Those players want something else, allll under the “it’ll be more enjoyable this way” umbrella.
I agree about the hero reworks though, I feel like the team is diverting too much effort to reworking heroes. A rework shouldn’t be a first suggestion to solve a potential issue, it sucks to see the team using it as practically a default.
