that’s how you know the character might not be that good! lmao!
i see SO many of y’all try to defend the hamster by belittling the lore and the other characters in the game… yikes.
“a HaMsTeR iS tOo StUpId fOr yOu wHen wE hAvE a sNipEr WiTh A lOw HeaRt rAte?”
“a HaMsTeR iS tOo StUpId fOr yOu wHen wE HaVe a RoBoT nInjA?”
“a HaMsTeR iS tOo StUpId fOr yOu wHen We HaVe a RuSsIaN bOdYbUiLdEr?”
there are two things wrong with saying sh!t like this.
-
when you gotta literally TRASH the lore when a character gets released instead of celebrating it… it’s really not helping your argument that he’s a good character who fits into the game.
-
what y’all be saying doesn’t even make sense, a smart nurse isn’t nearly as stupid as a genius hamster. a latina hacker isn’t nearly as stupid as a genius hamster. a talking gorilla (gorillas are already hella smart and are very close to humans both physically and mentally) isn’t nearly as stupid as a genius hamster. literally all the characters in this game are serious to a degree, there’s nothing serious about the hamster. he’s purely in the game because he’s cute and funny looking, A.K.A a joke character.
if you like him, w/e. but let’s not trash the lore in order to make him look good. let’s not trash the other characters to make him look like less of a joke.
thanks.

the OW lore is super shallow!
You all wanted a tank that isnt op and is high skill here you go yet now you all find a new way to whine
Its a new hero, you dont like it? Dont play it, he is coming out and end of story

Boi I was trashing these characters before Hammond was even teased about

Lore always takes a backseat in games.
There’s this weird, prevailing idea that devs shouldn’t or don’t make anything that doesn’t fit the lore, but the vast majority of the time, no Dev will ever say ‘We can’t do this cool thing we want to do because of lore. Oh well.’
He’s part of the lore and has more of it then lucio, pharah, and d.va.
Hammond isn’t shoehorned in.
he’s had a place in the lunar colony lore since the start.

Pointing out that the lore has always been cartoony is not trashing it.
Something being cartoony is not inherently demeaning.
Animation is not insulting. It’s an amazing medium and the process is the reason the characters are as iconic as they are.
Maybe people need to get over their insistence on being seen as grown-ups instead.

Overwatch ain’t exactly a deep story and most of these characters ain’t exactly original.
I think you went in the wrong direction; when you CAN trash the lore to make Hammond look good, that’s how you know the lore might not be that good.
lmao!
Hot take:
OW heroes have always been shallow and lack development as a direct result of how many there are.
Not to mention how many designs are unoriginal or just flat out uninteresting. Like Genji is a lamer version of Raiden, or how Mercy is a generic pretty healer lady.
There are a few stand-out designs (The junkers, Lucio, Moira, Doomfist, among others are all super interesting) but so many characters lack… character.
OW lore feels like setting up a game of chess, but never actually playing it. We keep getting new characters or pieces, but none of them ever make the first move.

You better speak the truth.
D.va: teenage korean whos gaming skills somehow translate into mech piloting skills.
Mercy: can bring people back from the dead and can heal and damage boost people.
Hanzo/Genji: Durguns
Sombra: makes people forget how to roll/walk/ do things they dont need electronics for.
Zarya: Blackhole ffs
Tracer: blinks through time
Torbjorn: can turn into a fiery lava dwarf.
Any shield tank: somehow only allies can shoot through it.
Reaper: spoopy ghost mans.
Symmetra: can create shiz outa light
Widowmaker: Blueberry
Winston: can turn into giant red gorrila mans
so is a smart hamster really that outlandish

I completely agree with OP.
It’s hardly trashing other characters to point out how their own designs are unrealistic and how, therefore, an enhanced hamster isn’t unrealistic with respect to the Overwatch universe.
For example. Zenyatta is a fully sentient robot who wields some kind of magical “omnic energy” that he essentially uses to perform telekinesis and evoke the power of the Iris. That’s not trashing–that’s literally what he does. Yet, none of that is remotely realistic.
Meanwhile, Hammond is an enlarged hamster (not terribly unrealistic) who has a highly enhanced intelligence (somewhat unrealistic).
You can repeat this exercise with any number of characters from the roster
Sorry but the lore is long been trashed, theres been no progression and heck even the graphic novel was cancelled leaving us with nothing but fragments. The lore is as serious or as comedic as you make it e.g Theres an incredibly intelligent doctor that has enhanced medical knowledge to the extremes and saved people at the point of death where a lesser doctor would claim them dead (Genji) or Theres an angel and she can fly and stuff and can ressurect you cos why not.
First and foremost though, the game isnt lore, that is something I believe the team still hold fact so w/e. The game is fun and theyve just chucked in a fun hero. Heck the lore is so lacking that the community essentially created Brigitte from one Christmas comic and ran with it like they have the Junker Queen which has inturn forced Blizzards hand to make such chars.
