Every now and then I try unmuting OWL for a night, and I just can’t bear it. Why are there two people shouting and making poorly informed comments about the game nonstop?
Watching the games muted tends to work for a while, but I’ve never managed to stay interested in more than a couple of maps or one match of not having ingame sound.
Every single week of OWL, I consider just giving up the game and coaching, just because of how aggrevating I find OWL with sound on, and how dull I find it without sound.
All I want is a stream without any casting, or at least some more tolerable option without shouting, clueless comments, and the patronizing explanations directed at first time viewers.
Every traditional sport has commentators, same with eSports. Without casters just watching a game is pretty boring to 99% of people. Just turn down the stream to very low volume or mute it, is it that hard??? Commentators for real sports make stupid comments all the time, it’s live, people are human you know.
Traditional sports tend to have commentators for the sake of tradition, because those sports had to be, and mostly still are, broadcast on radio. Many diehard fans of those sports don’t like commentators either, although mostly for the reason of commentary being a reminder that they aren’t watching in the stands.
I don’t remember other sports having even close to the same amount of non stop shouting seen with esports, and I’m completely fine with having some calm commentary over slower paced sports events to have something to keep me engaged. Overwatch is however a very fast paced game, with plenty to follow without commentary, and it’s mechanics and strategy are far too deep and fast evolving for casters to have a proper grasp of. Sports commentary may include factual errors, but at least it’s not a constant stream of fundamentally misunderstanding what’s going on, and completely missing blatantly obvious things like feeding for a nano.
I feel silly writing this again, after you didn’t read it the first time, but I do watch the games muted all the time. I just really want ingame sound there, because it’s a very important part of following the game.
I actually got out of the competitive Dota 2 scene because they’d occasionally leak team comms for some teams, which I felt was awful practice for a competitive environment with plenty of strategy and intel teams have spent time on.
Even though it was very interesting, having a spotlight like True Sight on a couple of teams felt awful. It had fairly little on actual strategy, but showed a lot about player mentality. In Dota you have some room to give extra attention to individual players, and it’s actually been done to try and mess with enemy morale and comms.
I genuinely don’t understand the hate on the casters. Maybe I simply have low standards but I never had and still don’t have a problem with what they say or shout
I’ve had to shut the sound off for several NFL games because the commentators were not only clueless and wrong, but also had aggravating vocal technique.
Radio commentary tends to be good. We can’t see what’s going on, so the play-by-play has to be excellent, and the color commentary has to come from deep expertise. It’s so good that people actually in the stands often bring earbuds and a portable radio (or app) to listen to it as they watch.
Wtf is wrong with you people, HashStash is talking about OWL and that he and many others are anoyed from the comenators wich yell nonstop’’ OOOHHH WOOOWWW HEE HIT A SHOT MAAASSIIIIVVVV’’ HashStash and many other want a simple sulotion where you just klick a button and shut the coms down, an option for people who want to hear and people that dont, things you R dont get and start talking about traditions, muting the hole stream and to hear the strat’s calls of the player, youre talking something down that is in your own intrest, options for free, an options that you can CHOOSE if you want. youre fighting your self
