When should Echo switch?

Trust me, you would climb as Echo for a few ranks. But you will not climb out of diamond or masters as solo-echo since this is the rank where people get much better at getting value of counter-picking and comms.

And if you will, then good for you. You are good at Echo. It’s not her balance.

That’s more or less the purpose of my post X)
I wanted the higher people to tell me when it really wouldn’t work hence the title.

I really liked the Samito guide (the best one) but he didn’t even mention counters and comps.
And my experience on echo is taht I’ve only ever had to switch for Reaper (me playing him)

Honestly if that was your goal a better title would’ve been “when shouldn’t I pick Echo.” Since most answers in that sense are going to say things you’ll know before even picking the hero in the first place, (map mostly). Otherwise it’s just the general rules you already know, can you get more value elsewhere or not.

It’s the same thing as my question, my question is just more specific imho.

Kinda, my point is just more that a lot of the information they will likely have for you is map specific which would just mean that you don’t pick her to begin with. Granted the opponent could never switch to counter you at all but that’s more of a debate on how much you risk getting countered on a map where it’s easier to be countered.

Otherwise it’s really just a yes/no of are you being countered or not.

I’ve watched every gm guide on this topic - they are all: “these maps are great”, but none of them say “this map is a no no”

As for counters - zero so far, I’m waiting for karq or something but still zero “this is when you don’t play Echo under any circumstance” topics/guides

Like I said, just keep in your mind “what maps is another hero I play particularly strong?” Echo can always be a good pick, doesn’t stop another one from being a better one. We can’t tell you much beyond that because we don’t know your general playstyle on every hero you play and if it works or not. There can be a great option to counter something but if you don’t play it then there’s no point to switching.

I’ve told you already and I’m telling you dude - none like nobody is that much better than Echo -never has that crossed my mind and trust me I think about it. XD

first: i play everything (this is not my main account, my main account is almost plat border) I’m a flex player through and through - No wonder i found Echo to main - I don’t find anything nearly as fun as calculating which hero is best to dupe and why (like can i help a teammate combo, do we need to counter something, should I just get a defensive ult or a rez) in the midst of battle.

second: my playstyle is - I take a lot of risks, am very aggressive as a player - cuz that’s the first thing I generally do - I test the limits of my aggression and my opponents weakness/strengths, I rarely shy away from 1v1 duels, I try to make engagement decisions as fast a possible and then I conduct what I did wrong in replays (was it cd managment, game sense - like picking the wrong opponent at the wrong time or did I just get outplayed)
Like this: I press tab, I choose a target, I locate him and go for it

And I am telling you, that will not always be the case. If you play everything then there will be maps where Echo does not get a particular advantage but another might. Otherwise you’re just going in with a mindset of instalocking Echo at the start of every map. And that’s totally fine, I’m just saying to be honest with yourself. Are you really looking for when Echo is not the best choice (not a wrong choice but a better choice existing), or are you wanting to only play Echo unless absolutely impossible? Because Echo’s ult does not make someone a flex player every time she uses it (not saying you are not one) it just makes a person an Echo one trick player that gets to choose another hero to play, often the best ones being playable no matter how much you play the hero you copy.

This entire thread reads as Nevera believing they should never have to play any hero besides echo or reaper, and looking to justify it by any means necessary. You aren’t asking a question, you’re trying to validate the opinion you already had formed.

Perhaps to give themselves something to reference in case someone asks for something other than Echo in a game? They need a quote to dispel the asking of a switch.

Probably just to back up their own cognitive dissonance. Nobody cares for forum quotes in games from my experience.

Pretty clear they’re not straight winning or carrying like they’re projecting, or they wouldn’t be on here justifying it, they’d be in game climbing.

The former. I may main Echo now, but I still flex, and queue all 3 roles in ym overwatch session… That being said maining a hero doesn’t mean you only play that hero, to me it means that I excel in that hero particularly and have devoted a lot of time to mastering him/her - doesn’t mean I’m not gonna play anything else, or master anything else. Echo is just something I’m currently into, and probably the first hero I’ve managed to play for an entire overwatch session, and the very first hero I ever instalocked in a game (I never did that before) - which must mean something…

Yes I kinda am, that’s true. But to be fair reading my OP - it is asking the question: Are my experiences/opinions valid or am i missing something? That’s still a question. It’s just very specific.

I’m not that type. Neither am I one trick and will never be.

Oh, god forbid you try to have a in depth constructive distinction on a hero. Maybe I should just post about smurfs, hackers, and what to nerf and what is broken in comp for this forum to be happy.

It’s not the “Moira is broken, Genji is useless” posts that have an agenda.
It’s me and my wanting to discuss hero’s gameplay and viability (cuz I jave an agenda you see)
/rolls eyes

It means that you want to play Echo more than anything else. And instead of looking for a reason to play any hero that may be best for the given situation, you’re just looking for reasons to play Echo specifically. Whether that’s because she’s that good or because she’s the shiny new toy (realistically both), you became the neighbor of the guy instalocking Genji because he was the cool ninja. It doesn’t matter how flexible you may be later on or how flexible you think you are, if it doesn’t matter to you in that first hero select screen.

Yes Echo is strong right not, but the biggest reason you can’t find a reason to not play Echo is because YOU DON’T WANT TO.

Even given her strength she does not compliment with any particular team play styles besides dive, there will always be heroes that fit better into a comp, even dive.

Except you do not want to discuss. You want us to tell you to only play Echo and that there’s no reason to switch off. Otherwise why would you say that you can’t get countered outside of very specific scenarios? You don’t want to be the one to have to swap off of your new toy no matter what your team may need more.

This discussion has taken a wrong turn, I’m out…

I’ve have listed a reason I found to not play Echo multiple times in this post, and cited that it’s most commonly due to dive tanks…

I’ve told you over and over how I flex, I have asked completely fair questions to when I should swap Echo cuz I’m obviously concerned about soft throwing and am in no way shape or form a one trick or have that mentality

if you have nothing constructive to say other than "maybe one day you’ll have to switch and maybe in some scenarios like specific maps (proceeding to not name a single one…

Yeah, I’m done… (with you)

Done with you too dude. We answered your “honest” question and you didn’t like the answer when we told you what you’re telling us. Just because we didn’t say what you clearly wanted to hear whether you realize it or it’s just subconsciously, we aren’t going to tell you “you good just only play echo outside of the one super specific scenario you mentioned you smart.”
