An old but never mentioned idea, how if we can play Overwatch in Vulkan(A new generation of graphics API which brings performance boost)?
Vulkan API, versus the current DirectX 11 using by Overwatch, may offers higher performance, result in a performance boost for nearly every player (Intel, Nvidia, AMD GPUs that is ok to run OW are all Vulkan supported).
Vulkan API is cross-platform, which may make OW a cross-platform(Mac, Linux maybe?) game more easier.
So please, OW Team, will you consider implement the Vulkan API?
They’d probably need to re-write the entire game to work with Vulcan. I know the dev. team previously known as Sony Online Entertainment still refuses to upgrade PlanetSide 2 from DirectX 9.
I thought that maybe it is worth to have Vulkan for a performance boost and a cross-platform-able experience, also avoided possible DX12 implementation, which is for Windows 10 only and would not give too much performance boost(except if Overwatch team is going to add some Raytracing techs).
The chances of cross-platform play are close to nil; Sony and Microsoft would probably rather go bankrupt than enable crossplay between their competing consoles, even if they share certain multiplayer games.
They actually addressed this recently. I think it was in a post about bringing overwatch to Mac but also mentioned vulkan and said they’d love to do it but it would require way to much work and not happening anytime soon.
All these Mac and Linux people. Just install Windows and it will solve all your problems.
Can’t work on new stuff. E-sports is more important.
No content, recycled events but at least we got a new viewer for tournaments.
Game has decent multi-core support, runs 150-200 FPS on a GTX 1060, rewriting the engine to Vulkan (or DX12) is close to pointless effort.
Please please please,
Vulkan is the future, Help your game last as long as possible,
The results across many more platforms will on strengthen the market you already have - and allow it to grow, so when your people you know say, sorry, I can’t game, i Linux, or MAC< we can say it’s still possible -
Not only that - the reduction on overheads will boost this already amazing game to the next level of holy goodness.
